Five letter name challenge!

TumbiGirl · 02/05/2012 07:07

Hi all,

We are expecting DC2 in August and feel a little stuck over names. My husband and I both have five letters in our christian names and coincidently five letters in our (married) surname. For this reason, we decided to stick with five letters for our children's names as well. You've got to love a gimmick - arghhh!

We took forever to agree on our first child's name and when our DD1 was born we named her Ellie Jane Rxxxt. (Our surname is single syllabled and quite blunt / hard sounding.)

Our shortlist for girls back then was:
Chloe
Heidi
Ellie

And the only name we could agree on for a boy was:
Monty

Now fast forward two and a half and it feels even trickier to find a name than before, mainly due to me wanting a name that doesn't end in an 'ee', 'ie, 'y' sound. For instance, I love:
Ellie & Angus and,
Ellie & Alice
however my husband has ruled these two names out without discussion.

My husbands favourite names that I have rejected are:
Girls:
Darcy
Sofia
Annie

Boys:
Oscar
James

My favourite names that my husband have rejected are:
Alice
Pippa
Clara
Lucia

Angus
Brynn
Isaac

Middle names are family names and set at Elizabeth and Michael.

Any help would be appreciated - thank you!

Thank you all so much for your replies! (Apologies for the delay on my response - I live in a different time zone to the UK.)

Some really terrific suggestions that we hadn't thought of or considered and interestingly DP's name has been suggested quite a few times (David Smile).

Coming from a rather large family (I'm one of five, DP is one of three and my Mum is one of six (yes, catholic), a few names are already in use and are automatically off the list including: David, Katie, Molly, Jayne, Jules, Jacob & Sarah.

Whilst I love both Angus and Flynn, DP has ruled these two out without exception.

A few that I really like and think work well are:
Ellie & Anica (Pron? A-nee-sa? A-nee-ka?)
Ellie & Celia
Ellie & Greta
Ellie & Hanna
Ellie & Seren
Ellie & Tessa

Ellie & Aidan (Only draw back is that the name is hugely popular here)
Ellie & Felix
Ellie & Giles
Ellie & Miles
Ellie & Quinn

Thank you again for your suggestions - let's see if I have any luck! Smile

This reminded me of a guy I used to know whose parents (both with 5 letter names) wanted to do the same for their kids - his sister is Helen and his brother his Nigel!! They said it was the only 5 letter boys name they could think of??!! Incidentally, the guy I know (who became DC3) is Nicholas so they obviously couldnt think of any other 5 letter names??!!

Priscillaqueenofdessert · 03/05/2012 18:14

I've always liked Freya for a girl

CuppaTeaJanice · 03/05/2012 18:25

Nijah
Naomi

Benji
Haydn

I like 5 letter names, it seems the perfect length - long enough to have interest but not so long that they need shortening.
