Harvey or Rory?

DC1, will be Harriet for a DD but struggling between Harvey and Rory for DS. Middle name will be either Mitchell or David, common surname - Johnson. What do you think?

Also, can anybody help us with a middle name for Harriet? Completely stuck on that too!

Love Harriet. If you think you might use it in the future if this one's a boy, you might want to go with Rory instead of Harvey. Harvey & Harriet? Not sure about it.

I'm not a massive fan of either Harvey or Rory but of the two, I think Rory has the edge.

Loads of names will go with Harriet as a first name. Are there no family names you'd like to use? Or outlandish names you're not brave enough to use a first name? For what it's worth, when I was born my mum and dad let my dad's parents choose my middle name. I don't think they had any in mind and they lived some distance from them (next to my other set of grandparents) so it was a nice way of making them feel involved. Depends on how close you are to your parents/parents-in-law and how much you trust their taste in maes though!

For what it's worth, here are a variety of suggestions:
Harriet Loveday Johnson
Harriet Beatrice Johnson
Harriet Clemency Johnson
Harriet Rose Johnson
Harriet Alice Johnson
Harriet Poppy Johnson
Harriet Eloise Johnson
Harriet Elizabeth Johnson
Harriet Honor Johnson
Harriet Flora Johnson
Harriet Victoria Johnson
Harriet Primrose Johnson
Harriet Eliza Johnson
Harriet Theodora Johnson
Harriet Ruth Johnson
Harriet Frances Johnson
Harriet Christabel Johnson
Harriet Catherine Johnson
Harriet Bella Johnson
Harriet Serenity Johnson
Harriet Sadie Johnson
Harriet Chloe Johnson

Rory David definitely! Nice names.

Harvey Mitchell Johnson sounds like a string of surnames to me.

mamij · 27/04/2012 11:20

Not keen on either tbh. But Rory has the slight edge.

Love Harriet though!

mardybummer · 27/04/2012 11:43

Looks like Rory David it is then for a boy, good point about it not going with Harriet.

I love Harriet Eve! Thanks everybody :)

Rory

nizlopi · 28/04/2012 10:41

Is Rory getting more popular? Its not been in the top 100 for a while (I don't think) but I've seen it being mentioned a few times on here recently.

Janoschi · 28/04/2012 11:15

Harvey I can't help but say in an Essex'y 'Arvay' kind of way. Sorry but maybe it's the Katie Price connection. Rory is great.

Surf25 · 28/04/2012 12:35

Rory - without question.
Harriet is lovely. Totally agree about Harriet and Rory sounding lovely together if you had a dc2!

CecilyP · 28/04/2012 12:38

I really like Rory. Goes with either of your middle name choices. Quite like Harriet too and stellan has given lots of good suggestions for middle names.

MeconiumHappens · 28/04/2012 21:54

Rory.

PieMistress · 28/04/2012 22:30

RORY!! no question!!

Psammead · 29/04/2012 21:09

Rory. Either middle name.

BBQJuly · 29/04/2012 21:13

Harvey, definitely! Rory sounds rather ponderous.

Harriet Serena

Rory is v v popular. I know 7 of them aged under 4. A couple of them really suit the name - they roar the whole time Grin, mind you that has put me off the name! There are 2 Rorys in DC's music class, where there are only 5 boys.

SodoffBaldrick · 30/04/2012 03:25

I try not to say this on name threads, but I think Harvey is awful. It puts me in mind of an overweight, middle-aged dart-throwing beer-swiller. Sorry - you've just hit on one of my very least favourite boy's names, so perhaps I'm not best place to comment!

Rory is nice.

DoggieAndDuckie · 30/04/2012 03:52

Rory David or Harriet Eve - lovely!
