Few questions:

Yea or nay?

Do you think that Jem is too feminine for an occasional nickname?

Is it a bit To Kill a Mockingbird? Is that a bad thing?

Love it. My little brother is Jeremy nn Jem, although as a teen he moved more towards Jez. I would consider if I had a DS.

RillaBlythe · 26/04/2012 08:31

Also I had a crush on Jem from TKAM, so no, it's not a bad thing.

blackteaplease · 26/04/2012 08:34

I know a Jeremy that had the nn Jem as a child and is stilled called that by his family but everyone else calls him Jez.

NenNen · 26/04/2012 08:37

I like Jeremiah and Jem better... Jeremy and Jez make me think of a certain Mr Kyle!

tammytoby · 26/04/2012 08:42

I like Jeremy a lot.

I'm not so keen on Jem as it does sound a little feminine imo (I know a Jemima who goes by Jem/Jemmy and a Gemma known as Gem).

EmyC · 26/04/2012 08:44

I think Jeremiah is a fantastic name , and Jem isn't too feminine for a nn i agree with NenNen, and could even use Jeri/Jerry . I'm just 4 weeks pregnant and i'm thinking of names already!

tammytoby · 26/04/2012 08:47

Jerry reminds me of Jerry Springer.... or Tom and Jerry Grin.

PercyFilth · 26/04/2012 11:00

I'm amazed that Jeremy isn't more popular than it is. It's a good traditional name with several nn options, and there are plenty of famous Jeremys to bring it to attention. Kyle, Clarkson, Vine, Paxman, Irons - OK, some of them are Marmite but it's not like there's just one example.

Stellan · 26/04/2012 11:06

Maybe it's the Bamber association that puts people off?

I post this and a few hours later he's all over the news again.

I shouldn't think so. Most people having babies now are unlikely to have much awareness of that case. I didn't even think of him, and I remember it.

WinkyWinkola · 26/04/2012 11:28

Jeremiah and nn Jem = brilliant. Jeremy makes me think of anaemic public school boys.

blue22 · 26/04/2012 11:49

Brilliant name and love Jem as a nn

AWomanCalledHorse · 26/04/2012 11:50

Jeremy is a song by Pearl Jam, I have to say it like it's sung.
Jeremiah is lovely & not anything like Mr.Kyle....

PercyFilth · 26/04/2012 12:32

There are some names that I associate with crumbling old tombstones, and I'm afraid Jeremiah is one of those.

evamummy · 26/04/2012 14:45

"anaemic public school boys"

Are public school boys more anaemic than state school boys Grin?

Personally I quite like Jeremy (but am not that keen on Jem). Why would you need to shorten? Don't like Jeremiah very much.

WinkyWinkola · 26/04/2012 14:56

No not as a rule but Jeremy makes me think of public school boys.

Stellan · 26/04/2012 15:57

I don't suppose you do but I quite like both. :)

I grew up with several Jeremy's and they are Jem, Jez, Jed and Jer. even as adults, they are all still called these names ( except Jer, he is now Jeremy)
I like Jem, I don't think it is feminine at all.

blackteaplease · 26/04/2012 16:43

The Jeremy that I know is/was a public school boy.

DonInKillerHeels · 26/04/2012 16:46

Jeremiah/Jem lovely. For some reason I have never liked Jeremy though.

BBQJuly · 26/04/2012 16:52

I like Jeremiah/Jem.

Too many offputting Jeremys to like the name.

randomimposter · 27/04/2012 12:06

I love the NN Jem, and it's top of my list for a future DS. But I would use Jerome as the long name, as Jeremy has too many unfavourable connections, and Jeremiah a bit fussy to my ear.

PJHarpy · 27/04/2012 15:31

I like Jeremiah but weirdly hate Jeremy. Jem is sweet.

Jerome is nice, too.

Moti · 27/04/2012 21:13

Love the name Jeremy but when I said it was a possibilty for my DS I got a lot of negative comments. Not so keen on Jeremiah.

EllenParsons · 27/04/2012 23:52

I like Jeremy but not Jeremiah. Jem is good but he would probably get Jez.
