Well two actually - when I was pregnant I went out for a meal with three close friends who wanted to discuss my name choices. I love talking names, so happily divulged my first choice - a highly unusual name that I really loved. It went down like a lead balloon, with two of my friends barely disguising their horror/disapproval. I talked it through with dh - who was uncertain whether it would work. Anyway on the day of her birth, dh decided on his own that this unusual name was THE ONE. My friends have been more than a little uncomfortable that we didn't take their advice. (They suggested Florence or Amelia). It's fine now - in that I don't see these friends too often so it's not too awkward. But nearly a year later I do worry a little that I've burdened my dh with a v unusual name. (Dh is happy). I guess it's because the name change deadline is nearly up. I'm not sure I would, more whether I should..... Anyone else wish they'd played it safe? (It's not made up, strangely spelled or anything..)

We had a girls name and a boys name picked out. We told people. As soon as he was born. People were telling us we were lucky he wasnt a girl and how they hated the name........we are of course planning on using our girls name if we have one next time.....awkward! Oh and girls name is Cerys so it's not a case of it being too out there!

tethersend · 28/04/2012 22:58

Loads of people hated DD1's name (Angie), but we knew it was her name.

EVERYONE will hate the name we've chosen for soon-to-be-born DD2, but I just don't care. We haven't told anyone what it is yet, they'll have to suck it up when she's born Grin

iklboo feeling slightly miffed that you've suggested my twins' names are not naice.

I'm searching for a girls name and if that didn't rhyme horribly with my surname like every feckin name I like I would be stealing it at this point!

Your friends are rude.

trikken · 28/04/2012 23:10

Love it.

fluffypillow · 28/04/2012 23:22

I think it's pretty.

Plaguegroups · 28/04/2012 23:24

Love it, I wouldn't be at all embarrassed shouting that across a playground. To see if I can see a name working in RL I tend to try and picture: dr x, lawyer x, screaming 'x' to prevent child running across a road, and IMO your DD's is fine in all those situations.

Patiencedeficit · 01/05/2012 07:29

Beautiful name!!!

silver28 · 01/05/2012 08:12

I'm really conservative in my name choices, but I think that name is just lovely. It sounds pretty but also strong. Please don't change it! Your DD may be disappointed in the future if she finds out she should have been named that and you changed it!

DogEared · 01/05/2012 08:12

tethers Angie is so bloody cool.

CheesyWellingtons · 01/05/2012 23:40

I love it too OP. It is unusual, pretty, but not outlandish.

MrsJoeDuffy · 15/05/2012 23:12

It's lovely! I was expecting something outrageous. Like Bathsheba or Tinky or something.

MayaAngelCool · 15/05/2012 23:17

Is that it, OP? I was expecting something horrendous like WombFruit or Offspringia. Grin

Truly, it's a lovely, musical name. Some people's opinions are just too conventional and dull to be worth worrying about.

NadiaWadia · 16/05/2012 02:38

Cheerfulyank, Maria is more usually 'Mah-REE-uh' in the UK, also.

The Mah-rye--uh pronunciation is old-fashioned, and most people would assume it to be spelt like Mariah Carey if pronounced that way.

Popoozle · 16/05/2012 09:48

That's a lovely name! I agree that your friends must be quite odd Smile.

ragged · 16/05/2012 09:52

Not for me but it's hardly a bizarre or tasteless choice.
I was expecting something along the lines of at least "Chardonnay" or "Greco".

Purplelooby · 16/05/2012 18:45

As it happens I like it!

thegreylady · 16/05/2012 19:18

Very pretty

IslaValargeone · 16/05/2012 19:28

I think it's lovely, my dc has an unusual name that prompted a lot of face pulling, "what's wrong with Louise" and a couple of " No really, what are the proper names on your list" comments.

FrauGrau · 16/05/2012 19:47

What a lovely name! Well done on coming up with it! Don't even think of changing it (actually,if you lived in Scotland you couldn't anyway!!)

HuggyPomBear · 16/05/2012 21:39

Great name that she will love when she's older too.

Lannie33 · 18/05/2012 15:09

first of all, lovely name, definately keep it. I grew up with an unusual ethnic name (more usual than that one) and loved being the only person anyone had ever met w my name.

mumzy · 19/05/2012 18:57

There's nothing mad about the name you've chosen but sometimes I think it depends on where you live. In parts of meedja north London kids are called bizarre names and everyone thinks thats normal. If you live in the provinces going against the accepted trend will make people think you're bizarre. Is the name you've chosen from the old testament?
