I'd love it if you could give some input on the following name ideas. I'm Welsh and DP is English. Also does anyone have any ideas what Bess could be short for apart from Elizabeth?

Mari
Gwenna
Romilly
Bess
Jemima
Alyssa

Charlie

Owen

Freddy
Huw
Rauley

Lovely names. Could Bess be short for Beatrice?
Huw definitely my favourite for a boy!

PotteringAlong · 16/04/2012 18:50

Love Huw! (if we have another DS he will be a Huw. DS1 is an Idris).

Also Romilly and Gwenna.

GravyHadALumpyMashBaby · 16/04/2012 18:52

Love Mari and Bess.
Not keen on any of the boys names sorry! Are you looking for one welsh/one english name? (I'm also Welsh).

I like Gwenno or Gwennan, or Awen?

I also like Betsan as a longer version of Bess. Sounds very Welshie but apparantely is actually English. Who knew!?

DottieRose · 16/04/2012 19:04

Jemima & Romilly are my faves out of girls
and
Charlie & Freddie out of boys.

doctordwt · 16/04/2012 19:11

Huw is brilliant, due a comeback! Huw Charles or Huw Frederick

I too would go for Gwenno rather than Gwenna. Gwenno Romilly or Gwenno Jemima.

fanjodisfunction · 16/04/2012 21:53

Love the name Bess. My grandmother was called Bessie, just Bessie it wasnt short for anything, so reckon you could get away with it.

BBQJuly · 16/04/2012 22:06

I like Bess, Alyssa and Owen. Also like Charlie and Freddy if nicknames for Charles/Frederick.

welovesausagedogs · 16/04/2012 22:18

I like
Romilly
Jemima

Freddy
Charlie

I dislike the others

Bess could also be Elsbeth. Bethan/Bethany at a push.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 17/04/2012 11:00

Love Bess, Gwenna and Romilly. Menna is also very pretty and I have a real soft spot for Dilys.

Not keen on any of the boys' names really, sorry. Huw is the nicest.

How about Aneurin/Aneirin? Now that is a good strong welsh name.

Love your username btw :)

cwtching · 17/04/2012 13:45

Ooh thanks for your input everyone. I thought Betsan was welsh too GravyHadALumpyMashBaby. I really love Bess but I'm not sure if it's just a bit too short/bold sounding on it's own? I also really love Menna SoFarWeAreEqual but DP is not keen at all! :( pah!

We've got a baby Bess - short for Beatrice. Also love Jemima, and Freddy and Huw for boys.

BBQJuly · 17/04/2012 19:53

Why not Elizabeth? You can still call her Bess day-to-day but she'll have the formal option too. It's what Bess is derived from, so personally I wouldn't have Bess as nickname for anything else.

MagsAloof · 17/04/2012 19:56

I like Gwen / Gwenna and Mari.

Romilly is sweet.

Bess is a nice nn, but does need a formal name. Beatrice? Beatrix?

Not keen on Jemima or Alyssa.

Your boys names arent to my taste, but perfectly OK. Not sure about Rawley, though.
