Maisie for a girl? We already have a Katie - too many ie names? Can't think of any good girls names this time. Sadly our dd2 died last year and her name is Erin - I adore it and can't seem to find anything I like as much.

Boys names we like are:
Aidan
Orson
Alexander

But not set on any of them!

Maisie Elizabeth maybe

I think you should keep plugging away till you find a name you love as much as Erin. There's definitely one out there for you!

Maisie sounds like she should be scrubbing floors. Not posh floors, just workhouse floors.

I like Orson though, unusual, not too unusual.

Whatevertheweather · 11/04/2012 13:54

Scrubbing floors Smile maybe not then! To be honest it reminds me of Maisy Mouse too.

Like squoosh, I think you should keep searching until you find a name you love as much as Erin & Katie, my first thought was Maisy Mouse (now have theme tune in my head)!
What is it you love so much about their names?

I like the boys names.

PinkPolkaDots · 11/04/2012 14:07

Really sorry about your DD2, OP Sad
I think Katie and Maisie sound fine together - don't agree about scrubbing floors though!
Love Orson for a boy!

Whatevertheweather · 11/04/2012 14:14

I think I like the simplicity of them. Especially Erin it makes me think of peace and greenery probably making no sense I don't like overly fussy or grand names. We have a one syllable surname that goes with most things.

Am loving Orson too. Giving a name like Maisie sounds like she is destined to grow up to be kind, caring lovable and everyones freind . . not a bad lot in life

Whatevertheweather · 11/04/2012 14:21

Yes I like Orson a lot. Dp not so sure as it makes him think of Orson from Desperate Housewives!

If you like the green connotations of Erin maybe you should think of a nature inspired name

Fern
Holly
Summer
Willow
Laurel
Luna

Stellan · 11/04/2012 14:25

I think Maisie is lovely but I'm not sure, for me, if it's sounds solid enough to be a first name. I think it sounds very pretty and whimsical but I'm inclined towards more 'serious' names. It's apparently a nickname for Margaret but I'm not sure that's particularly obvious! If you like it, use it.

Since you've got a Katie, I think you can pick similarly offbeat choices but something that sounds a bit different (i.e. without the same ending) could work better.

You might like:
Elsa
Mabel
Miriam
Etta
Nerys
Lois
Iris
Anne
Lara
Maeve
Zoe

If you want another -i.e. name, Dulcie and Sadie are my favourites.

Francagoestohollywood · 11/04/2012 14:28

I am very sorry for your darling Erin, OP

I love Maisie exactly because it reminds me of Maisy the Mouse, which was my favourite character. So fierce, so independent!!! Smile

I really like Alexander, and Orson. Not keen about Aidan, as it reminds me of Carry's lame boyfriend in SATC.

AWomanCalledHorse · 11/04/2012 14:29

That makes sense, to me simple girls names are ones like; Hannnah, Emma, Laura, Miriam...names that just roll off the tongue (if that make sense).

Going again on the green/nature theme; Rowan, Hazel and everything squoosh beat me to!

Francagoestohollywood · 11/04/2012 14:29

Oooh I love Elsa and Iris. And Luna.

bigkidsdidit · 11/04/2012 14:34

Eden?

Ooh I love Cara, Zoe and Lara. Dp vetoed Luna when I was pg with Erin because of the Harry Potter connection, I think it's beautiful. Katies middle name is Anne I do love it and Anna. Dp likes Portia but I think it's too grand next to Katie.

Thank you for your very helpful suggestions and kind words about Erin. Seems strange to be back to choosing baby names as had Erin lived I probably wouldn't be pregnant now.
