Loved Fabien/Fabian but now having a wobble - what do you think of Dexter?
We have Joseph and Dominic already. ThanQ.

I have a dexter! Not met anyone else with one :)

I LOVE his name, unique.

BahHumPug · 09/04/2012 16:22

I have heard it quite a lot lately - it's become very popular. And as long as you don't mind the whole serial killer TV shower thing, I think it's nice.

patchesmcp · 09/04/2012 16:25

My friend's boy is Dexter. I'd have thought it would be quite rare but when I was at soft play the other week I saw another little boy called Dexter. I'm not massively keen on it but definitely prefer it to Fabian.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 09/04/2012 16:27

Sorry to those who have one Blush but it conjures up an image of a very adorable golden labrador :)

Definitely prefer it to Fabian/en though!

clam · 09/04/2012 16:30

Agree with chipping. I've met a fair few dogs called Dexter when out walking mine. Although, to be fair, there are also lots called Charlie, Max, Bella and so on.

Stellan · 09/04/2012 16:36

I think of Dexter (serial killer TV programme) and Dexter's Laboratory (strange cartoon). I also think it has too many sounds in common with Dominic. Try saying the two in quick succession - bit of a tongue-twister.

Jess850 · 09/04/2012 16:46

I have heard of Dexter the Program but not too fussed as I am sure there can't be that many more Series left in it? I am so stumped - DH and I are really struggling to decide but I am liking Dex more and more. Thanks :-)

I love it, different but not unheard of. Go for it!

Bohica · 09/04/2012 17:16

I love it but it is very popular here.

I also love Spencer.

BackforGood · 09/04/2012 17:19

Well I wouldn't use it myself, as my sister's rabbit is called Dexter, but, if you don't have that problem, I think it's quite a nice name Grin.

Much nicer than Fabien/Fabian Wink

lisaro · 09/04/2012 17:38

Really dont like it but have heard much worse on here.

emmyloo2 · 10/04/2012 03:57

I love it. Not at all popular where I am from.

Much nicer than Fabian which is a little wet in my opinion.

Your sons names are lovely. I love Joseph and Dominic.

The only thing is I wonder whether Dexter is a little harsh compared with Joseph and Dominic which are softer names, if that makes sense.....??

Babycameearly · 10/04/2012 09:06

LOVE it!! Please call your baby Dexter - althhough I will 'steal it' if I ever have another baby boy ;)

squoosh · 10/04/2012 11:08

Fabian is far nicer than Dexter. Dexter sounds tacky to me. Sorry.

QuintessentialQuaker · 10/04/2012 11:16

We have a Dexter who has lived very happily with his name for 10 years! Obviously I love it but I think it is one of those marmite names which people either love or hate. There is no reason for teasing though so I would say go for it if you love it :)

nenehooo · 11/04/2012 20:46

I LOVE Dexter - because of the TV show! DH and I started watching it last year and halfway through an episode turned to each other and said "Dexter (our surname)!!!"
We still love it and it's on our shortlist, but not sure if naming our baby after a fictional serial killer with morals is a good idea Hmm

mirrorsaysNO · 11/04/2012 20:56

Never heard of the serial killer but I don't think Dexter goes well with your other ds names...sorry.

A family I know have Dominic and Joseph and siblings Matthew and Eleanor.

SLVC · 11/04/2012 21:03

I'm anoher one who loves Dexter the TV show and as a result loves the name! I have heard of a few though so don't choose it of you are looking for "unique".. (that wouldn't/didn't bother me though and Dexter was a consideration for DS)

QuintessentialQuaker · 11/04/2012 22:11

What SLVC says about popularity has just reminded me that, although when we had our Dex ten years ago we didn't know any, we now know 3 under five in quite a small community. That's definitely something to think about if worried about popularity as I think it is climbing up in popularity.

goingmadtrying · 12/04/2012 08:38

we looked at dexter with our last ds he is actually called declan and we call him dexter every know and again as a nn we decided against dexter because alot of people thought of the serial killer it put me off

Jess850 · 12/04/2012 09:15

Mirror - Eleanor is our top Girl choice, Esme a close second.

For a Boy I think Fabian/Fabien is my favourite over Dexter today - DH has gone a bit crackers and just coming out with stupid names if I ask him now so I guess if Baby comes soon (and at 40+1) I sure hope they do they may have to be Baby Boy for a while...

Don't like it at all sounds like dyslexic to me. Sorry only my opinion. Fabien would be fab a lot at school. (I'm a teacher, know what kids are like.)

Aworryingtrend · 12/04/2012 10:03

I am not keen on Dexter at all. Fabien I really like.

coffeepot · 12/04/2012 10:21

I like the sound of Dexter, but it does make me think of the breed of mini cows (Dexters)...Fabien is more unusual, sounds a little more distinguished to me...
