Middle name for Billy?

Sil is due with her first baby (a boy) mid august. I'm so excited to be an aunty for the first time :)

Anyway she and my brother have decided on Billy for a first name in honor of my Dad, who passed away 7 years ago.

They are having a hard time deciding on a middle name. Dad was William but was only ever known as Billy, but they are just going to use Billy, not William.

So first name 2 syllables, last name 2 syllables, they are thinking just one syllable for the middle name.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks :)

Max
Tom
Tim
Um I'm sure there are more but i can't think of them at the mo, I think Max would work best of my suggestions. Love the first name, my William is Billy and you don't hear it often :)

Why not call him William? That was your dad's name. Billy is a (lovely) nickname. Billy Middle Name sounds hick; William Middle Name sounds nice.

Whirliwig72 · 09/04/2012 15:08

My dad is William Edward but gets called Billy as a nick name.

randomimposter · 09/04/2012 15:21

I have a William Arthur, known so far only as Billy.

Putting middle names with Billy is quite hard IMO. Without sounding like a C&W singer...

Bellaholland · 09/04/2012 15:51

My nephew is Billy Peter and has a two sllayble surname. He's a lovely boy! Always gets good comments on his name.

AfricanExport · 09/04/2012 15:58

Ray, Bob, Joel...

Not sure how to do it without sounding like you are a C&W fan....

I love the name Billy, William not so much.

Does he have to have a middle name?

KateF · 09/04/2012 16:08

Friend of mine has Billy George

Stellan · 09/04/2012 16:34

Something long - e.g. Billy Alexander, Billy Sebastian, Billy Jeremiah, Billy Cornelius, maybe Billy Samuel.

I would rather be named William than Billy (if only because it allows for some extra nicknames when you're a teenager/young adult and Billy doesn't sound as cute as it once did).

gegs73 · 09/04/2012 16:36

Billy xx something long like Stellan says. Billy Edward? Something abit traditional.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 09/04/2012 16:47

I have three DCs with the name in various places.
Billie (first name)
William (4th name)
Billy (3rd name)
(the last two were named for the first who died before they were born).

They have tons of names between them.

Jordon
Lennon
Asa
Cassius

Are the names that sit next to them IYSWIM (the have loads more)

I think they all go lovely together but I am not sure the majority would agree, never mind Grin

Seriously though William would be better. But I agree with Stellan Billy Alexander sounds OK.

mumofjust1 · 09/04/2012 17:19

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions Smile

I can see the C&W connection now, haha! Grin

I think they are now thinking of William nn Billy as it's easier to find a middle name that sounds good with William than with Billy and, as someone else mentioned, William was Dad's name on his birth cert.

Thanks again, I'll give them all of your suggestions and let you know what they decide Smile
