Cosmo

A second hot contender for The Third has arisen - Cosmo. I like it, DH is a bit concerned it sounds new rather than classical. I can't decide whether I love it more or less than Rupert yet - to go with brothers Charles are Wilfred. Chip, Wilf and Ossie.

Maybe. . .

Cosmo sounds like a womens magazine to me - sorry. :)

BBQJuly · 07/04/2012 16:55

It sounds nicknamey, probably because I think of it as short for Cosmopolitan (magazine).

BetterThanChocolate · 07/04/2012 16:57

I think of the cocktail!

DottieRose · 07/04/2012 17:01

I like Cosmo..... how about Cosimo? Less like the drink and magazine! Though I think I prefer Rupert. Oscar could also make a nice sibset!

mrsshears · 07/04/2012 18:29

I loved it too, until dh told me about cosmo smallpiece the les dawson character Sad

EdithWeston · 07/04/2012 18:33

If you want Ossie as a nn, I think you might be better off with Osbourne.

I think Cosmo is a lovely name (but think you might find it shortens to Cozzie)

Momdeguerre · 07/04/2012 18:48

I like Oscar but there are five in family and close friends. I've not heard of the Les Dawson character. . . I shall have to look. I'm OK about the magazine connection.

I know several Oscars with bad connotations (difficult child or difficult mothers to them!). Never was a fan, but has created new prejudices.
Cosmo is just.... ugh. I expect a big person with big personality (fill the room with his presence) with a name like that. It won't work otherwise.

Stellan · 07/04/2012 21:02

I think of the women's magazine (not a good thing) and the drink too. Cosimo is a more usable option but I think I'd only use it if I were Italian. I'm not sure Charles, Wilfred and Cos(i)mo sound like brothers either; Rupert is a better fit. (If you're not bothered about names matching, please ignore me.) If you like the jaunty O ending, Hugo or Milo are ones to consider.

Ecgwynn · 07/04/2012 21:08

Biff?

Ecgwynn · 07/04/2012 21:08

Arlo?

O2BNormal · 07/04/2012 21:08

Round here it's a chain of not very upmarket cafes Smile

nizlopi · 07/04/2012 21:16

Sounds like the sort of name you'd find at Eton.

"Oh hello, my name's Cosmo and this is my friend Jonty. We're off to play some water polo! WHAT HO!"

UrsulaBuffay · 07/04/2012 21:17

Reminds me of Cosmo & Dibs

LottieJenkins · 07/04/2012 21:34

Cosmo makes me think of the naughty Cosmo in the Jilly Cooper books! I have a Wilfred so you have good taste! Wink

Leeds2 · 07/04/2012 21:52

Prefer Cosmo to Rupert!

welovesausagedogs · 07/04/2012 23:39

I don't think it goes with your other son's names, their names are classic and traditional, whereas cosmo is nicknamey and quite modern.

What about Charles, Wilfred and Caspar
Charles, Wilfred and Felix
Charles, Wilfred and Angus
Charles, Wilfred and Stanley
Charles, Wilfred and Archer
Charles, Wilfred and Edwin
Charles, Wilfred and Quentin
Charles, Wilfred and Rae
Charles, Wilfred and William

Momdeguerre · 08/04/2012 10:03

Thank you. I really love Hugo but it seems to be getting quite popular here. We also loved Winston but it sounds too similar to Wilfred for me.

Arlo is lovely but already used by close family.

WLSD - Your list has some great names on it, I particularly like Casper and Archer and Quentin, I shall put them to The Mr.

I think Montgomery or Rupert are probably our top faves at the moment but I still don't feel like we have found 'the' name yet.

Hugo is getting really popular because of the recent film, i wanted casper, seb, or soloman for my 4th, dh hugh arsenal fan, so he wanted a footballers name, after lots of dilebration, picked theo

Prunella79 · 08/04/2012 16:05

inigo, bertram, henry?

Momdeguerre · 08/04/2012 21:18

Inigo is on the list although I'm a little put off by the meaning. Henry has been used and my surname begins with a J which is why we have avoided all names beginning with B. I worry about the BJ initials.

GilbertandGeorge · 08/04/2012 21:21

I love loads of these names! Inigo, Arlo, Cosmo, Casper (& Jasper). All great.

yousankmybattleship · 08/04/2012 21:25

Seriously , you have a Chip and Wilf? Got to be Biff or Wilma then!

Sorry, I think Cosmo is awful. It sounds like a magazine ir a thirties mobster. Either way, not good!

5madthings · 08/04/2012 21:32

i prefer cosimo, you say you like montgomery and that can be shortened to monty which is lovely :)

i also like oscar and arlo but they are two of my boys names so biased!
