I have a DD (nearly 2) her name is Rosie (just Rosie) and we are expecting a baby boy in May.

Names we like:
Archie
Charlie
Oscar
Herbie
Frankie
Monty
Freddie

Which do you think goes best with Rosie + any other suggestions welcome.

Oscar.

TBH I like most of the other names more than Oscar but two names ending in an 'ee' sound doesn't really work to my ear. Too twee.

James?

CecilyP · 06/04/2012 12:43

Charlie sounds best to me. Not too twee at all.

SoThisisMe · 06/04/2012 12:45

Oscar is nice, so is Freddie, but I would put Frederick on the birth cert.

Charlie and Archie are overdone.

Please don't name your son Herbie.

Sarcalogos · 06/04/2012 12:54

Hetty Shock Rosie and James (jim), don't do it!!

Any of our choices work well IMO, except herbie and monty.

Sarcalogos · 06/04/2012 12:55

*your choices obviously, not quite THAT arrogant....

FondleWithCare · 06/04/2012 14:26

Charlie or Frankie

WithACherryOnTop · 06/04/2012 16:24

No to Archie
Charlie is ok.
Oscar is popular but lovely.
Hate Herbie.
Frankie is ugly.
Monty is ok.
I don't like Freddie.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/04/2012 16:34

Like Oscar and Monty.

Love Frederick but hate Freddie. Fred is fine.

Frankie and Herbie are horrible, sorry.
Archie and Charlie bore me.

Agree that Rosie plus Archie/herbie etc isn't great.

welovefashion · 06/04/2012 17:07

I'm surprised no one like Archie, it's one of my favourites, and my granddad was called Archie, so as a name it has sentimental value.

The middle name we plan on using is Felix - just to let you know.

Felix being a family name, and my daughters is Matilda which is also a family name.

OP posts:
HettyKett · 06/04/2012 18:30

Felix is excellent! Would you consider using it for a first name?

Sarcalogos Had to google Rosie and Jim, but, yes all things considered probably best not to use James then.

BBQJuly · 06/04/2012 19:46

I like Charlie and Freddie, but think Charlie Felix works better than Freddie Felix.

WithACherryOnTop · 06/04/2012 20:02

I think the problem with Archie is that it's overdone. It was extremely popular a few years ago,and became the 'ubiquitous' boys name.

If it has sentimental meaning to you then I'd certainly keep it on the list.

Felix is a great middle name.

WithACherryOnTop · 06/04/2012 20:04

Love Matilda too.

welovefashion · 06/04/2012 20:09

Now i think about it Freddie Felix does sound a little odd (especially as our surname begins with an f too and is the name of an animal). I knew Archie was popular in terms of the most popular baby name list (4oth or something) but like Rosie i have never actually met another one.

I was talking to my mum about baby names today and was telling her the name, she was like"you can't call him Herbie, everyone will ridicule him" so i have kind of gone of it as well as monty, which everyone says is a dogs name.

You're right.Freddie Felix Fox,guessing here, doesn't work.

Archie, considering the family connection, and Oscar, though if your surname is that, Oscar doesn't quite flow with it,would be my first choices. Followed by Monty.

abbypumpkin · 06/04/2012 20:17

I love Charlie and think it goes well with Rosie.
Your reaction in relation to Archie suggests to me that you were hoping everyone would choose it to confirm your favourite choice. I'll be honest Archie is not for me but it seems that you love it therefore the choice is simple. You love Archie, it has sentimental value and it goes nicely with Felix. Go with your heart :)

Sarcalogos · 07/04/2012 00:30

Haha Hetty! Must be my age but I can't get the theme tune out of my head....

HolyLentenPromiseBatman · 07/04/2012 02:57

Archie - nice, but too popular
Charlie - too popualr
Oscar - love
Herbie - sweet, but not with Rosie
Frankie - love, but not with Rosie
Monty - awful
Freddie - fine, but not with Rosie

I'd avoid a name ending in 'eee', as you already have Rosie so would go for Oscar.

BellaOfTheBalls · 07/04/2012 03:25

wish I could stop singing Rosie & Jim In my head

I would also steer well clear of another -ie ending, it doesn't sound right. I Would go with Oscar. Any reason why you wont have Felix as a first name? It's lovely, Rosie & Felix sounds great.

William?
Nathan/Nathaniel?
Benjamin?
Jasper?
Jacob?
Max?
Milo?

With DS2 we had a short list of names, one of which had an -er ending & a similar syllable stress to DS1. They just didn't sound right together at all. which is good cause quite frankly I have no idea what I was thinking even suggesting it

welovefashion · 07/04/2012 10:04

Thanks for all your help and comments, we decided not to go with the ie ending so we are going to call him Felix Archie Fox (you guessed right), so we will have Rosie and Felix. Thanks so much for your comments, i feel like you helped me make the right choice.

Lovely name choice, though secretly hoped you would go for Herbie (it's my sons name).

BellaOfTheBalls · 07/04/2012 18:39

Great choice [bsmile]

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 07/04/2012 19:05

What about

Ethan?
William?
Jack?
Harrison?
Alfie?

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 07/04/2012 19:05

Ooh Oliver?

justhayley · 07/04/2012 20:21

I like Oscar and Rosie best.
How about Hugo and Rosie
