Rafferty is great and I also like Benedict, not so keen on the rest sorry.

Puremince · 05/04/2012 05:24

I like them all except Bede. I've never heard of Bede, other than the Venerable. Bede belongs with names like "Ethelred" and "Adomnan" and "Wicthed."

I think I like Edmund or Arthur best from your list; there's a reason that they have survived as a name for a 1,000 years, and Bede hasn't.

Thumbwitch · 05/04/2012 05:32

I like Jasper best. Benedict and Edmund are good.

Bede - not keen
Rafferty - reminds me of Raggety in Rupert Bear, sorry
Don't really like Ezra, and not keen on Arthur.

StillSquiffy · 05/04/2012 05:33

Rafferty, Benedict, Jasper all get my vote.

Ezra and Bede - he'll spend his life spelling it out to people (have had to do that with my name all my life and it sucks)

Edmund OK.

Arthur way too popular. Am sure it will turn out to be this generation's 'Neil'

Bunsouttheoven · 05/04/2012 05:41

Hi April, we are struggling too with a name, hence taking a peek at names topic.

I like Ezra best of all. Both my dcs have less usual names too (without being out there eg moon unitGrin ) People nearly always respond well to them. I'm feeling the pressure to find a third that is as goodSmile

mathanxiety · 05/04/2012 05:49

Congratulations! Hope all is well.

I like Jasper, Benedict, Bede, Edmund and Ezra.
Don't like Arthur (too popular) or Rafferty (makes me think 'riff raff', 'raffish').

I think of the names I like, Edmund and Bede stand out. Ezra is nice but has a different quality to it imo. Benedict and Jasper are really nice though... You have great taste

EssieW · 05/04/2012 06:26

Love Edmund. Wanted it for DS but it did not go with surname.

Benedict also nice.

Don't like Ezra or Bede. OK as second name

happybigbump · 05/04/2012 06:59

Love Ezra and Rafferty.

aprilfoolsbaby · 05/04/2012 07:16

AThingInYourLife · 05/04/2012 07:21

Oh, and congratulations! :)

BikeRunSki · 05/04/2012 07:30

Love Ezra!!!! I reckon people will be able to spell it. It is spelt as it sounds.

Not keen on Benedict (but maybe by association) or Rafferty - too surnnamey.

Not Ezra. But only because I LOVE it and worried it might become popular! Grin

Love Benedict and Rafferty, both on my shortlist if ever have a DS.

congrats!

Psammead · 05/04/2012 10:29

I especially like Benedict and Bede.

Congratulations!

Surf25 · 05/04/2012 10:50

Congratulations Smile Hope you and new baby boy are doing well!
My favourites from your list are: Ezra, Benedict anc Arthur, in that order, though I do love the nicknames Art and Artie!

Most important thing is to choose the name you love the most!

CagneyNLacey · 05/04/2012 10:52

I love the name Rafferty but was vetoed by dh.

spiderlight · 05/04/2012 10:57

I absolutely love Benedict. My other favourite from your list is Ezra. Congratulations!

CornishMade · 05/04/2012 11:02

I know a toddler called Bede, it's a great name and I really love it. Simple but cool and will go with anything (career-wise!)

aprilfoolsbaby · 05/04/2012 11:36

I can't believe all the lovely comments about our name short list. Just got home from the hospital, going to have a nice bath and some treats from the bakers for lunch - then I'm going to have a good look at our boy and ponder his name x thanks again for all your comments and opinions (you've all been very gentle)

They are all great. My least favourite is Arthur. I love Bede because of the historic associations, but can imagine he may have problems explaining it to people. (stil, it doesn't take long to spell it out, does it? B-E-D-E!)

Name out of a hat? Or throw a dice? Because then you may know exactly how you feel in that second that the choice is made for you. Iykwim

Congratulations, btw.

Momdeguerre · 05/04/2012 12:04

Jasper - Ok
Benedict - Ok, I prefer Barnaby or Barnabus
Rafferty - Nice
Bede - Not keen
Arthur -Love
Edmund - Ok, prefer Edward or Ernest
Ezra - Love

vitaminC · 05/04/2012 12:10

I love Arthur, Edmund and Ezra. Benedict is OK, but not keen on the pope, so wouldn't use it. Jasper and Rafferty sound pretentious, IMO.

I've never seen or heard Bede before? How is it pronounced? Bed? Beady? Bead?
