Girls name trouble!

My Husband and I are currently at a point where we can?t agree on a name for our daugher due in August ? Our first daughter was named after my grandmother and his grandmother, Evelyn Hope (pn. Eve-lynn & nn. Eve/Evie). I Chose the first name as it was what i had wanted to call my future dayghter ever since my grandmother passed away and now hubby said HE gets to choose the first name becuase i chose the last one, (even though he doesn?t have any emotional attachment to his choice!) The middle names will be Jane Mary (our mothers middle names) so it needs to sound nice with these.

He is set on Alexis (only becuase he wants the nn. Lexie) but i?m not sure its pretty enough..

We both kind of like Natalia (nn. Tahlia/Tahli) Again i?m just not sure if its ?right?.

My current shortlist of names are:
Aria
Lara
Audrey

And some that we both think are Okay are:
Leila
Addison
Jasmine
Auroura

Which do you think? Or do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you in advance :)

What about Alexia, much prettier ( and not so Dynasty)than Alexis and you can still have Lexie as nn.

ripsishere · 02/04/2012 07:01

Alexis is horrible, Alexia is OK, Alexandra is lovely. Addison is a disease and a place near Croydon I think.
I really like the name Jane if that helps at all.

I think if you chose your first dd's name then it's not unreasonable for your dh to have quite a lot of input this time, but I also think that both parents have to like the name. Could you try asking him to write a long list of the names he likes and you pick from that or vice versa? I'm not sure it particularly matters if you have a 'good' reason to like a name, so I don't think your choice of Evelyn should trump his of Alexis/Lexie.

smilingforonce · 02/04/2012 07:13

Leila is a lovely name not keen on others sorry xx

insanityscratching · 02/04/2012 07:31

I think Audrey goes best with Evelyn but my favourite from your list would be Leila.

One person being the one who suggested or offered the name that was chosen DIDN'T choose it. They suggested it, but the other parent agreed.

Both parents have to agree. It doesn't actually matter who suggested a name, or whose side of the family it came from.

Your husband sounds a bit childish.

If he is worried that he is somehow not important enough in all this, I suppose you could make sure that all names in the hat were first 'said' by him.

But it would be nicer and easier for you to both suggest names and the one you both agree on most to be selected... just as you did with Evelyn Hope, as I assume that she wouldn't have been Evie if he'd hated it.

One thing that can't happen is for a name to be chosen that one parent dislikes. Personally I think Alexis is very Dynasty and doesn't go with Evie. Evie and Lexie are too matchy. Personally dislike Lexie too but that's just me!

The problem I see from your OP is that there is ONE name he is 'set on'. If he's doing that to try and get it so that you are 'equal' - he's being very silly.

If you don't like Alexis it's off the table.

Get him to choose more for his shortlist.

SoupDragon · 02/04/2012 11:39

Alexis is horrid. As others have said, Alexia is much nicer and Alexandra, while popular, is also nice.

I really don't like Audrey (it sounds dreary), Addison or Aurora.

mummybare · 02/04/2012 11:45

I also prefer Alexandra, and if it's the nn that appeals to DH, perhaps that would work?

Audrey is also lovely and I quite like Jasmine, too.

Janoschi · 02/04/2012 11:48

Another vote for Jane - Evie and Janey sound really sweet together.

welovesausagedogs · 02/04/2012 11:55

The names i think go with Evelyn from your list:
Jasmine
Lara
Jasmine

Evelyn is a nice classic name, so what about:
Rose
Charlotte
Beatrice
Augusta
Jemima
Lillian
Grace
Madeline

I think Evelyn and Lillian would be really nice together, then you could use Evie and Lily as nick-names.

EdithWeston · 02/04/2012 11:58

He agreed to the name you were set on for DD1 (would his preferences have come into it at all?)

So as taking turns is a fair way of sharing, then I think he does have the predominant say this time.

I'm not keen on Alexis, because to me it is foremost a boys name. But if he is very strongly attached to it, then I can't see why not.

Of the other names he might contemplate:

Natalia - lovely
Leila -ok
Addison - sorry, do not like this at all: an unfeminine surname
Jasmine - ok but a bit dull (so many of KS2 age)
Aurora - ok

Showmethemhappyfeet · 02/04/2012 16:15

Grin my DD and her second and third choice name (if she didn't suit the first) are all in your list. You have good taste.
In no particular order, I like
Lexi (Lexus as a full name)
Aurora
Addison
Aria.

Another name I saw mentioned on MN and loved, Azaria

OriginalJamie · 02/04/2012 16:19

My favourite is Aria. I like Natalia as well.

None of the others grab me, but here are some that I like that are along the same lines:

Leah
Lana
Lyra
Claudia

doctordwt · 02/04/2012 16:23

LEXUS??!!

OP, go all the way and just call her Audi TT!

Grin
mrswoodentop · 02/04/2012 16:34

The only Addison I know is male ,to be honest it's the name of a disease ,why would you call a child after a disease?

Showmethemhappyfeet · 02/04/2012 16:45

Because its a name too? Like place names that are names. Or virtue names. Or 'pets' names. Or flower names...

Showmethemhappyfeet · 02/04/2012 16:46

Oops Lexus! Alexus is should have been!
