Lily-something?

or possibly Something-Molly perhaps?

Along the lines of Lily-Beth, or Hannah-Molly.

Not May Rose or Grace though.

All ideas gratefully received! Smile

Ok, Lilith as the real name, hidden by a cunning Lily, here are some Welsh suggestions...

Lily-Anwen
Lily-Catrin
Lily-Nia
Lily-Seren
Lily-Lowri Grin I dare her! (Kind of amazingly beautiful though...)

scottishmummy · 05/04/2012 14:00

Lilith? female demon and Adams 1st wife before eve
I have too many negative associations of Lilith, don't like it

scottishmummy · 05/04/2012 14:00

I'd no more call girl Lilith than a boy lucifer
google Lilith before you use it...

HappyCamel · 05/04/2012 14:10

Never mind Lily-Celeste, for for Marie-Celeste Grin

HappyCamel · 05/04/2012 14:11

*go for, obviously

chipmonkey · 05/04/2012 14:21

No, Lilith is a demonic creature!

Lily-Hope

threeleftfeet · 05/04/2012 20:31

Lilith is not simply a demonic creature, she represents female sexual power and a refusal to be obedient to men. Adam rejected her because she refused to lie beneath him while having sex. (Shocking behaviour Grin). I'm not saying she's not a demonic creature, but that the reasons she is are very interesting from a cultural point of view. It's all to do with men asserting power over women and Christianity's fear of our sexuality.

My friend knows the stories well. She's an atheist and they are fairy tales to her.

The whole Lily-something idea is so her DD can have a name acceptable to the many religious people who live in their community them - but if she does go for Lily, it'll definitely be Lilith on her birth cert.

Devora I'll pass it on Wink

doctordwt I like Lily-Seren, it's got a nice flow to it!

Lily-Lowri? She could be LiLou for short (although perhaps a NN for a NN is bordering on too many names Grin)

i'll mention them all when we speak again later this week.

mathanxiety I love the rhythm of Lily-Tallulah too, but my friend's dog was Talullah so I'm not sure if she'll go for it or not?! I'll mention it anyway!

Lilly-Tatiana

chipmonkey · 05/04/2012 22:17

But even a name representing female sexual power seems wrong for a little baby. And she was Frasier's wife in Cheers!

youarenotbeingserious · 05/04/2012 22:30

I immediatly thought Mae, Mai before I saw your OP. It it May in general or just the expected spelling?

how about:

Lily-Jo
Lily - Belle
Lily - Cate
Lily -Eve
Lily - Faith
Lily - Jade
Lily - Meg
Lily- Paige
Lily - Rae

my favourites from here

threeleftfeet · 05/04/2012 22:44

Why do you think a name representing female sexual power is wrong for someone who will after all grow up to be a woman one day?

(She won't get the reference when she's little).

I think that's worth examining, I reckon it's your conditioning Wink

Never seen Cheers, sorry.

threeleftfeet, when I was little I got a doll for Christmas. Someone asked me what she was called and I hadn't named her yet. My lovely uncle suggested Jezebel! I thought it was a beautiful name and called that doll Jezebel for years. It was only when I was a teenager that I understood what Jezebel meant.
Now, I didn't understand the implications of the name when I was little but was quite upset to think that people were laughing at me over my doll's name all through my childhood and no-one had the good grace to tell me!

Yes she will grow up to be a woman but she will be a little girl first and I don't know that I could look at a little girl and call her Lilith.

But anyhow, what do I know, I called my dd Sylvie-Rose and a lot of people here think hyphenated names are the work of the devil!

LesAnimaux · 05/04/2012 23:00

Never seen Cheers?

Or Fraiser?

You must be..........young.

Or never have owned a TV.

thisisyesterday · 05/04/2012 23:21

I know a little girl called Lilith, I think it's a lovely name

threeleftfeet · 05/04/2012 23:28

Pushing 40 here Grin

I don't think the doll thing is quite the same. You were set up, chipmonkey. There was a joke and it was on you.

There is no joke here, my friend loves the name.

Sylvie-Rose is lovely btw :)

threeleftfeet · 05/04/2012 23:30

And she wouldn't be called Lilith as a little girl anyway - well not much - she'll be Lily-something.

What about Lilly-Rae

gafhyb · 06/04/2012 10:29

Don't hyphenate it.

chipmonkey · 07/04/2012 01:13

The decision to hyphenate has already been made.

Thumbbunny · 07/04/2012 01:31

I know a little girl here (Australia) called Indie-Rose. Actually, I don't know if she's hyphenated or not but she's always called Indie Rose. Indie might be an alternative to Lily? But then again, it's very popular in Australia (possibly not in the USA).

Lily Claire is nice.

I also know of a Lily Pink in the UK - but it always makes me smile because I think of so possibly not!

jifnotcif · 07/04/2012 01:32

Lilyemma

or Lilienne (just made that up)

Lilylou

I think you need a name with one syllable, or it should begin with vowel.

Lilyanna

or Lilyvonne

Lila is nice variation, or Leila
