Name to hyphenate with Lily?

Lily-something?

or possibly Something-Molly perhaps?

Along the lines of Lily-Beth, or Hannah-Molly.

Not May Rose or Grace though.

All ideas gratefully received! Smile

I'd definitely stay away from Lily or Molly Anna for fear of it sounding too 'PollyAnna'

siilk · 02/04/2012 11:49

I know a lovely little girl called Lily-May.

Bunbaker · 02/04/2012 19:30

And please don't have May/Mae. Every other girl's middle name/hyphenated second part on here is May/Mae.

SodoffBaldrick · 02/04/2012 19:37

Please don't hyphenate. Especially with Lily.

EssentialFattyAcid · 02/04/2012 19:40

Personally all hyphenated names make me cringe

DoubleGlazing · 02/04/2012 19:55

Another vote for non-hyphenated. But whether you hyphenate or not, how about considering some longer middle names?

Lily Charlotte
Lily Amelia
Lily Juliet
Lily Abigail
Lily Francesca
Lily Sophia
Lily Rebecca
Lily Isobel
Lily Jasmine
Lily Alexandra
Lily Miranda

CremeEggThief · 02/04/2012 20:45

Ooh, Lily Amelia is lush!

SilkStalkings · 02/04/2012 22:51

Oh Lily Miranda is lovely, great metre and those cmooth continuants /l/ and /m/.
Agreed no hyphens, so many about.

blueberryboybait · 02/04/2012 22:55

I met a Lily-Agnes the other day. But please don't burden the poor child with hyphenated name.

scottishmummy · 02/04/2012 23:05

no hyphen,just add name
agree lily rose too over done

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 03/04/2012 10:15

yy Lily Miranda is lovely. As is Lily Sophia. Both give the option of choosing the more grown up, middle name later in life. Lily is a very pretty name, but it's a bit twee - sweet for a 3yo, but at 40 I'd hate it. Having said that, in 20 years time it might not seem so frou frou.

What about Lily Yolanda? Or is that a bit of a mouthful? Confused Yolanda is one of my favourite names, and the shortened Yola is nice too. If I were to have another baby (highly unlikely) it would be my top choice for a girl.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone :)

This is actually for one of my closest friends, who's in the states. Yes they do have mumsnet in the states! But she's not really a computery person despite my- best efforts to indoctrinate her with mumsnet!

She's not actually going to hyphenate (some of you will be pleased to hear!).

My friend is really keen on Lilith. However she's really not sure about it, as where she lives is extremely religious, in that way that Americans do best - (my friend's an atheist). She thinks that calling her DD Lillith will be like sending her to school marked with "my parents are heathens" stamped on her forehead!

(Lilith was Adams first wife. She represents female sexual power over men, as she refused to be obedient to Adam - she was not made from him as Eve was. To many devout Christians she is also the serpent in the garden of Eve, a night demon who personifies evil! A really interesting character! More here if you're interested)

Where she lives in the States, it's common for people to use their first and middle name as one name, just like a hyphenated name. Her cunning plan is that she can be known as Lily-whatever at school, and then use Lilith if she likes when she grows up and wants a grown-up name. And hopefully lives somewhere that's not full of full-on religious nutcases people.

The ones she likes best from this list are

Lily-Celeste and Lily-Estelle.

She's wasn't keen on the more plain ones.
She says she's looking for something with a nice rhythm and sound (hope that makes sense!)

She's also considering Celtic names (with Lilith as a middle name) so Lily-something-Celtic might be good perhaps?

Any more suggestions would be much appreciated! :)

Oh and Julie-Lily (like Edward Woodward!) and Lily-Milly made her chuckle, thanks for them too Grin

Lily-Celeste is dreamy. I like Lilou but I fear I may be on my own with that one.

threeleftfeet · 04/04/2012 10:46

DP loves Mlla Jovovich Lilou too, and I suspect it will appear on the list for our own next DC.

I'm not sure though, as I reckon it would get said Lee-lou where we live, rather than the gentler and infinitely nicer Li-lou.

I'll suggest it to my friend.

oh, that didn't work! Let me try again ... Li-lou

"Yes they do have mumsnet in the states!"

They have the Internet in America?!

threeleftfeet · 04/04/2012 11:18

Apparently so Grin

Lily-Therese (though Therese gets pronounced Terreese in the US)
or Lily-Theresa?
That way she would be half way to Lilith without anyone noticing...

Or
Lily-Tallulah
Lily-Tamara
Lily-Tatiana
Lily-Theodora

threeleftfeet · 04/04/2012 22:32

Thanks for the reply I'll suggest them :)

Lily-Roisin, Lily-Niamh and Lily-Sorcha all provide a Gaelic boost Smile

Devora · 04/04/2012 22:40

Or Lily-Aoife.

threeleftfeet · 04/04/2012 23:22

Ooh Lily-Roisin is nice :)

It IS, isn't it? Tell your mate I've just solved her problem, and that she can buy me a drink when she sees me Grin
