If you have a Lola...

...what age is she, what middle name did you use and what negative (and positive) connotations have you had in RL ?

I love the name and am aware of the Kinks, Barry Manilow and the Lolita book through MN, but wondered if that is perhaps a certain age thing as I would not automatically think that (age 30) I would more than likely think of Charlie and Lola...

Anything you can tell me will be bril!

My Lola is 11. Nowadays I do think people hear it and think Charlie and Lola, and not the Kinks, but when she was born it wasn't that common, and yes, I did have a lot of "why have you named your child after a song about a transvestite?". I didn't name her after the song, I just liked the name - it's short and cute. I had to really fight with ex-DP to call her it, ex-MIL thought it was "a tramp's name"! I call her Louie or Lolly sometimes. Perhaps if you don't like the Kinks reference you could consider Lila, maybe? But then, Oasis have a Lila song, don't they..?

Kinks song springs to mind for me too, sorry.

How about Tallulah instead?

DaenerysTargaryen · 02/04/2012 22:39

I prefer Lotta! But I'm one in a million who actually likes the name Dolores and would have used it for dd2 had dp not vetoed it like his name (the one she ended up with) was any better.... Angry

Lola is lovely :)

I don't know any in RL, but when I hear the name I think of Lola Adesioye. Very talented woman.

I have a Lola, I love the kinks (yes I know what the song is about!) and had no idea that it was so popular or would be regarded as chavvy, I just loved it. Lo is 2 and despite being told how popular it is i've yet to meet another Lola. I also found it mean 'strong woman' which I liked. I'm happy for her to use Delores if she wants a longer name later on....go with how you feel!

i LOVE the name lola but DH says no way, it's the name a pre-operative transexual and nothing i say changes his mind. hasn't gotten great feedback when i've mentioned it to friends and relatives but i think it's lovely.

It's short for Dolores, which means Sorrows.

StealthNinja · 05/04/2012 03:55

My niece is a Lola, aged 8 months. She's a Lola Mae. Her mum is very glam (sister in law), and they are both always dressed impeccably like naturalbaby's Lola .

I'm sure they've had the pre-operative transsexual and showgirl comments but they don't seem bothered by it.

I wasn't a fan of the name at first but she is so damned cute that I can't help but like it now. BIL and SIL call her Lolly as a nn.

WaftyCrank · 06/04/2012 10:43

My Lola is also Lolly, Stealth :)

Thanks to all that answered. Wasnt really looking for comments from people to tell me how much they dislike the name or dont have a Lola - hence my original post ''If you have a Lola'' - if you think of the Kinks or Barry Manilow and dont like the association, then that's fine... I doubt her peer group will though.

Helpful to know the middle names from parents of Lola's too so thank you

I quite like Lola Beatrix, but unsure...

Happy Friday to all - even the non-Lola fans (hey the World would be boring if we were all the same, right?) x
