My sister is expecting her second child in a 3 weeks, she already has a 2yr old son called Arthur (artie). They are still deciding on a name and well she asked me to see what mumsnetters thought, which is nicer, Romy or Rosie.

I like Rosie more but if she wants it to be a more rare name then Romy

Romy

They are both lovely, but I think Rosie 'goes' better with Arthur.

Romy. More classic, stronger sounding and less commonly used.

Arthur and Romy goes really well imo.

Romy is lovely,so unusual.Rosie is pretty, but very popular.

Hedwig3 · 29/03/2012 11:29

Does she like Rosemary? Romy and Rosie are both used as nicknames for Rosemary.

I like Romy and Rosy (spelt this way for me, makes me think of rosy cheeks Smile)

They don't like the name Rosemary particularly, also they want a short name for their daughter. For their son they went with the long version arthur because everyone said artie was a nn and he needed the full version but they haven't used it even once, so this time they want to call the baby the short version that will be used daily. If you say "arthur" her son does not respond (i don't think he knows its his name).

Romy!

Pandygirl · 30/03/2012 21:32

But Rosie is a nickname as well, use Rosalind or Rosamund (both of which are lovely).

exoticfruits · 30/03/2012 21:50

Rosie-but a longer version on the certificate. Rosalind, Rosamund or Rosemary are all nice. I don't like Romy.

I know a 2 year old Romy (nickname for Rosemary) - I think it is lovely, much nicer than Rosie IMO.

SodoffBaldrick · 31/03/2012 02:46

I would choose Romy over Rosie - more interesting.

randomimposter · 31/03/2012 18:50

I really like Rosy, but with Arthur which is also fab, I would go Romilly, nn Romy.
