Arlo and Elijah?

Does this work for brothers?
We have a 2 year old DS and another boy due very soon and are starting to panic slightly about names.
We would like a name that complements Arlo but also a little bit traditional.
Your thoughts on Elijah would be appreciated together with any other suggestions you might have.
Thanks

They sound lovely together. I also thought Arlo and Edward or Joseph.

I love Elijah. Arlo and Elijah are too of my favourite names, in fact. Think they go fine together, unless you shorten Elijah to Eli a lot, as I imagine Arlo and Eli would end up as Arli and Elo sometimes when yelled in quick succession!

I once asked about Elijah on here and was told it was "becoming chav" Hmm I think perhaps it's becoming slightly more popular after being dormant a loing time, but I can't see how it's "chav". I can't remember fully but think the poster was making a general point that more obscure biblical names like Noah and Elijah are now having a wave of popularity. this may be true, but Elijah is still a gorgeous and relatively under-used name imho.

Like Elijah, prefer Arlo and Elias though.
I have also heard the comments about "elijah becoming chavvy"

DoubleGlazing · 27/03/2012 15:09

Yes they sound great together.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/03/2012 15:43

I like Elijah but LOVE Elias.

Atticus
Thaddeus
Matthias
Benedict
Bartholomew/Bartie

Excuse the spelling in my first post.
Thanks for your comments.
I love Edward as well but DH not too keen on that name.
Good point about Eli and Arlo - could be a bit of a tongue twister!
Didn't realise that Elijah was a potential chav name which does actually put me off it a bit. Although I guess a lot of it has to do with his background and I would like to think that we are not chavs so hopefully he wouldn't get that label.

My 9 nearly 10 year old is an Elijah, I hate to think of a team of young chaps called Elijah (or any other name) being labelled as 'chav' (who on earth has decided Elijah's are chavs anyway?) We don't know any others, so can't comment on the rest of the Elijah population.
I love Elijah, and Arlo is fine, but I don't think they work together very well, it is a bit too vowelly. They also seem quite different stylistically - Elijah having religious significance (even for the non religious) and Arlo being a bit more current and on trend. Agree with the Arlo and Elo problem too.
Names I think go with Arlo are:
Leon, Stanley, Frank, Gregory, Xavier, Dante, Nicholas, Xander, Crispin, Hector.

welovesausagedogs · 27/03/2012 19:48

Arlo and Xavier work well together - still love Arlo and Elias though

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/03/2012 19:50

Gregory and Hector both v nice.

octaviarose · 27/03/2012 19:55

My friend has (literally) just given birth to an Elijah and the big brother is Issac sometimes known as Zac so they will be Zac and Eli which seems to work quite well.
Love Arlo and Elijah as names.

Pasiphae · 28/03/2012 09:53

I really like Elijah. It's a different style to Arlo but sound wise they match.
I think this would totally work as a sibset.

GsyAutumn · 28/03/2012 10:17

My 8 year old is called Elijah, and it really is a lovely name - and I wouldn't see it as remotely "chavvy"!!! We never shortened it to Eli, if anything I call him "Lij" (as in the second syllable). I think it sounds lovely with Arlo.

birdofthenorth · 28/03/2012 10:24

For some reason Arlo and Jonah appeals to me. But I still think Elijah is great.

BikeRunSki · 28/03/2012 10:29

I like Elijah and Arlo, but not sure about them together. How about Ambrose?
