Giving daughters the same middle name

My 4.5 year old daughter has the middle name Rose. When her father and I seperated, I changed my surname to Rose so as to have a name in common with her as opposed to reverting to my (awful) maiden name. I am now pregnant with my second daughter who will have my partners surname. Rather than having a double barrelled surname, I was thinking of giving her Rose as a middle name too, so she will always have a name in common with my first daughter (and myself.) Is that an odd idea or do you think it would be okay?

I think it's a lovely idea. A friend of mine gave both her daughters the same middle name she has.

Consider what you'll do if she's a he though, just incase Wink

Love it. :)

My daughter's middle name is my surname, we gave her DH surname.

tethersend · 20/03/2012 21:36

I'm doing it- DD1 has my surname as her middle name, and soon to arrive DD2 will too.

So it's a great idea Grin

No it's a lovely idea. My DD has my surname as her middle name. All my future children will too :)

mumofjust1 · 20/03/2012 21:47

Lovely idea!

My dd's middle name is Rose too Smile

Popoozle · 20/03/2012 21:50

No, it's a lovely idea and not all that uncommon. My friend has the same MN as her brother! It was their mum's maiden name but also a normal boy's christian name, so a little odd for a girl Smile.

I meant to use my maiden name which is a boys name as a middle name for all my boys. I had meant to give them another middle as well so they had one of their own but forgot with my first then didn't with my second for some reason

So I say do it

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 20/03/2012 21:54

That's lovely! I think you should do it, what a lovely idea.

Both my DC have the same (2nd) middle name, which is a family name. They like it that they share a name.

Fraktal · 21/03/2012 06:12

Any future DC will share a MN with DS. It's a very French Catholic traditional name which has been in DHs family for years and althoygh anglophones find it unusual for a boy I like it.

Every girl's middle name is Rose these days, so it should be fine!

winkle2 · 21/03/2012 17:32

me and my two sisters all have the same middle name

Frontpaw · 21/03/2012 17:34

I love it. Hope baby doesn't turn out to be a boy!

lou4791 · 21/03/2012 20:23

Great idea. My DS2's middle name is the same as DS1's first name. There's a thirteen year age gap so he's named after his lovely older brother, and it's generally a family name too.

we have a family name as a middle name. it's a surname, but male and female all have it if born with the carried forward surname ie all the boys born xsurname have called all their children xmiddlename xsurname for a few generations now. when we were kids we all hated it, and the boys said they wouldn't do it. but now we are grown ups adults we think it's pretty cool and the boys in my generation have all had their first dc's in the last three years and they all have the family name too. i think it's a lovely idea Smile
