Flynn

Hi, we are still debating names, got 4 weeks left so we'd better get on with it!

The front runner is Louis, but maybe Flynn. The problem with Louis is some people will pronounce it lewis. I did a poll on here a while ago and it was pretty much 50 50 about what pronunciation people would assume it was!

So, Louis or Flynn? We are scottish so I'd quite like a scottish name, but not coming up with any great inspiration so far so any suggestions welcome!

Well now....I know three Flynns already...all under one. It's a name which like "Finn" seems to have grown in popularity very quickly.

I prefer Louis as it's more classic....also I have NO idea how anyone could get the pronunciation wrong!

I do love Louis, I know we could spell it Louie, but it doesn't have the same ring to it somehow. Thanks for your input, I don't want him to have a really popular name, it'd be crap for there to be two or three flynns in his class or something!

Flynn is very 'of the moment' and will date, in my opinion.

Louis is fabulous and I honestly wouldn't let the fact that some heathens Wink may mispronounce it put you off. No-one thinks to call Louis Theroux 'Lewis', and yes, the Armstrong debate will run and run and even with the Hello Dolly caveat, I still firmly believe he and all his contemporaries pronounced it Loui'e'.

DD is a name which can be pronounced one of 3 ways, so yes, it is inevitable that on meeting her some do get it 'wrong'.

C'est la vie - it's not the end of the world, and the people who matter get it right eventually.

I love Flynn. It's a great name.

I don't like Louis as much but would pronounced it Louie as my friend has one. I knew quite a few Lewis's but only one is spelt Louis.

Flynn

Or spell Louis the English ways: either Louie or Lewis

EdithWeston · 18/03/2012 07:38

I do rather like it, but the "In Like Flynn" association would inhibit me from using it.

lilbreeze · 18/03/2012 08:13

I like Flynn and it was on my list for dc2. I think of it being Irish rather than Scottish. I don't think it's too popular - only know of one get 3.

Not keen on Louis personally but would spell and pronouns the same as you Smile

Lewis is a nice scottish name Wink

How about Struan or Ruaridh?

aftereight · 18/03/2012 08:31

Flynn
I have only come across 3, one age 10, one age 3 and one a baby.

Firstdayofspring · 18/03/2012 11:27

Flynn is really lovely. I dont know any. If I was having a boy, which I'm not, and it it didnt sound silly with my surname, then I'd go for it!

Shoshe · 18/03/2012 11:42

Think Flynn will become a more 'cool' name since Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom called their son it.

savoycabbage · 18/03/2012 11:50

There is a Flynn in my dd's class. She's eight and she's a girl.

I like Louie the best. It's lovely.
