Nicknames for Oscar

My OH is really keen on Oscar, but I hate the nickname Ozzy. Are there any other nicknames for Oscar??

I know nationally Oscar is quite popular at the moment, but locally there are no Oscars. So it could make it on to the short list if it wasn't for the nn thing.

Just call him Oscar, there's no need for a nickname.

JustForMe · 16/03/2012 09:51

My son is an Oscar and I call him Oscy...Im expecting another boy can I ask you for any Ideas on names to go with Oscar?

debijon11 · 16/03/2012 09:59

Oscy is a lot better than Ozzy. It just the Ozzy Osbourne connection.

Have you thought of
Elliot/t
Issac
Oliver (might be too similar)
Theo (my fav)
Matthew
Daniel.

I have a Harvey & Morgan already.

No need for a nickname particularly one with the same number of syllables (i.e. Ozzy). I'd just call him Oscar, which is a great name. You might come up with a family nickname once he's born which has nothing to do with his given name or his friends at school might start calling him by his surname etc. No need to force it by creating an artificial one now. The Oscar I know is just Oscar.

Bearhugs43 · 16/03/2012 12:29

Mine (5) gets Osc and very occasionally Oz but is mainly just Oscar and it's suits him well just as it is Smile

BlueChampagne · 16/03/2012 13:04

Agree - Oscar, till something completely unrelated crops up of its own accord.

mayanna123 · 16/03/2012 14:03

The one I know gets called Ozzy. I don't like it much either, I'm afraid.

GreenEyedMunster · 16/03/2012 14:05

I know two Oscars.
They are also called.... Oscar.
Why the need for a NN???????????????????????????

5madthings · 16/03/2012 14:17

i have an Oscar as well, he is pretty much just called Oscar, or Oscar Roo as his middle name is Reuben :)

for names to go with Oscar, we have a Theo(dore) a Dylan and a Rudi :) oh and Merryn (dd).

PuffPants · 16/03/2012 14:27

My friend's Oscar gets Osc or, occasionally, Oscadoodle. Smile

Catsmamma · 16/03/2012 14:28

My Oscar is NN OscarOrange

but then he is a ginger cat. :o

sonniebonnie · 16/03/2012 14:29

I know two, one is Oscar, the other Ossie.

babyblabber · 16/03/2012 16:09

i feel the same as you. love the name oscar but hate ozzy and think that it's inevitable that as a teenager friends will use a nickname, boo!

pictish · 16/03/2012 16:15

Another one with an Oscar here - he is just Oscar.
I sometimes call him Oskypie.

Badgerina · 16/03/2012 16:41

I have an Oscar. He is mostly Oz, sometimes Ozzy; occasionally he's Ozzy Bear, OzBoz, OzBob, Ozzio, or Oscarino.

Badgerina · 16/03/2012 16:42

p.s I though I hated Ozzy too, turns out I don't. Funny how these things pan out Grin

debijon11 · 17/03/2012 10:09

I just wanted to be armed with an alternative nn incase any family members started with the Ozzy thing.

My MIL can be qiute aggravating when it comes to my children names. My daughter was nn 'fatso' by her for sometime, even after numerous arguments over the nn. Then she would shorten my sons name so it sounded like a welsh girls name. So I just want to be ready with a 'we don't call him Ozzy we much prefer........'.

Not as though it probably will make much differrence to her!

I don't call any of my children by nn just there full name so to me Oscar would be Oscar.

Badgerina · 17/03/2012 10:12

Blimey! Fatso????? That's ridiculous. Sounds like it might be your MIL's turn to get her own insulting nickname... Angry

berryfreeze · 17/03/2012 11:04

My ds is Oscar, he actually gave himself his own NN Occy, which is quite sweet.

marshmallowpies · 17/03/2012 13:28

The one I know gets called Oss rather than Oz, not heard him get call Oskie. I think he does get Ozzie from the boys at school.

I do like Occy! - very sweet.
