Elsa?

DH and I have a few boys names lined up, but we're struggling a bit with girls. Basically most of the names we like are really popular (Ruby, Sophie, Lola). But then maybe that doesn't matter...

What do you think of Elsa? DH is keen, I'm kind of warming to it. We'd like the middle name of Gabrielle after my maternal grandma - she pronounces her name Gabriel rather than Gab-ri-elle if you see what I mean!

I'm not too keen on elsa for a first name, but maybe middle instead. I really like Gabrielle for a first name though Smile

I like it but if popularity matters to you (as you seem to suggest it might with your comment about Ruby, Sophie, and Lola), I'd rule out Elsa too.

PercyFilth · 14/03/2012 11:37

I like Elsa (although am old enough to remember the lioness Blush, still, nothing negative there)

Gabrielle is lovely if prn the same way as the angel - ugly if prn Gab-ree-el.

I prefer Ruby and Sophie to Elsa, just my taste though.

How about full name of Elisabeth and then you could shorten it to Elsie, Elsa, Beth etc?

CotesduRhone · 14/03/2012 11:52

I think Elsa is lovely, it's on my hypothetical list too.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 14/03/2012 13:09

I think Elsa is really pretty and not overly popular. Or you could have Elspeth and shorten it to Elsie/Elsa?

Beans1977 · 14/03/2012 13:27

Thanks everyone for the comments - really helpful to get a bit of feedback as I get my thoughts together.

Percy I have just had to google Elsa the lioness! I like what I read on wikipedia about her. The name is definitely growing on me!

Elsa's lovely, I think, and the only one I know is French and 40-something. And actually, I'd forgotten it was on my list for as-yet-unconceived second dd Grin.

BenderBendingRodriguez · 14/03/2012 13:32

I wanted Elsa for DD. DH vetoed Angry Go with Elsa, it's lovely!

DD is Claudia btw, which is actually exactly her so it all worked out in the end Grin

TinkerMaloo · 14/03/2012 14:14

TheUncannyValley · 16/03/2012 00:04

It's lovely, even if it makes me want to sing 'Born Free'.

TheUncannyValley · 16/03/2012 00:08

It works well at any age too imho.

TheMerchantOfVenom · 16/03/2012 04:39

Lovely name. Makes me want to sing 'Born Free' too. Wink

ED1984 · 16/03/2012 05:18

Not keen on Elsa at all. Lola is great.

diddl · 16/03/2012 07:18
