yay!

TheMerchantOfVenom · 14/03/2012 00:24

In the words of the infamous Marian Keyes, it has a rather 'cobbled together' feel.

Is it...

Mari-len-a
Mari-lay-na or
Mari-leen-a?

Jennylee · 14/03/2012 02:43

Maria-Elena I like its a proper name similar to Marilena

robino · 14/03/2012 06:54

Marilena is an Italian name, not cobbled together at all but not very heard of over here.

YummyMummybee · 14/03/2012 08:26

I think its quite pretty-It is a character in a book my mom was reading. I think its supposed to be pronounced Mari-layna.
Oh its Italian-I thought it had an Eastern European feel to it!

Awful. Sounds made up, sorry.

TheMerchantOfVenom · 14/03/2012 09:10

Ah, apologies in that case.

The Mari-lay-na pronunciation would be nicest, IMO.

sassymcnassy · 14/03/2012 11:09

Sounds made up? Only if you are not aware there are Other Countries with their own stock of names. Hmm

Stellan · 14/03/2012 11:34

Sounds like Maria Elena to me, which reminds me of the character in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

TinkerMaloo · 14/03/2012 14:16

not too struck tbh

HillyWallaby · 14/03/2012 14:17

Nay. It sounds like a contraceptive device or a brand of rubber gloves or washing up liquid.

FilterCoffee · 14/03/2012 19:43

I like Maria, Marianne, Marina.

However Marilena does sound made-up, a mix of Marlena, Maria and Mirena (coil).

yousankmybattleship · 14/03/2012 19:44

My first thought was the contraceptive. sorry.

ImpYCelyn · 14/03/2012 20:30

I like Marilena - but I know an Italian one.

Marlena is nice too.

What about Mariana? With a long middle a.

TheMerchantOfVenom · 14/03/2012 20:33

Eek, apologies again, I am from one of those forrin Other Countries. :-/ So I know full well of the existence of other names... Hmm

But it does look like a combo of all the Mari names, like Maria, Maribel, Marianne, etc and the -lena names - Helena, Elena, Selena, etc.*

DD has one of the second lot of names and her nn is Lena, so maybe this is why it seemed a bit 'cobbled together' to my eyes.

OP - if you like it, go for it. :)

leftwingharpie · 14/03/2012 21:06

Ooh I like it a lot!

YummyMummybee · 14/03/2012 23:50

Thanks for the opinions girlies! Not putting it on shortlist, just saw it in my book & said i would put it out there! Interested to hear it was Italian!
