O.K so we are expecting DS1 - My cousin had a baby recently and stole used our favourite name so had to start from scratch :)

We currently have a shortlist and was wondering what people think

Middle name will be John becuase it's family name/both our dads names etc

Sebastian
Henry
Ethan

I'm leaning towards Sebastian or Henry I think....

I really like that Sebastian can be Seb for short or longer if need be but wonder if it's a bit too weird or that my son will take ages to learn how to spell his own name?

Henry - I think it's cute basically, I have no further justification of why I like it!

Etahn - DH isn't sooo keen but does like it.

Come on then, let me have it.....

I really really love the name Sebastian - if I was having any more DCs this would be at the top of my list.

Like Henry too, not so keen on Ethan though.

browneyesblue · 13/03/2012 11:04

I like all three, but Sebastian is my favourite. For what it's worth, I have a 9-letter name that could be considered difficult to spell, but I don't have any memory of struggling to try to learn how to spell it.

Rhubarbgarden · 13/03/2012 11:07

Sebastian is lovely. Henry is ok. I don't like Ethan, personally.

LondonNadiy · 13/03/2012 11:09

Sebastian definitely. Awesome name. I love Ethan too, but I don't think it goes with John as well. Kid kids learn to spell their names v quickly - both my aunts have 9 letter names and they never had any problems (with a bugger of a surname too). There will be kids in his class called after medical procedures if the current trend is anything to go by -Sebastian won't be the weird name!

ripsishere · 13/03/2012 11:09

Duncan is even better Grin
Sebastian is an OK name, Henry is a bit meh and Ethan? No, just no.
Have I mentioned Duncan - or Adrian or Gavin?

shoobidoo · 13/03/2012 12:07

I think Sebastian is nice but really dislike the shortening Seb - reminds me of sebacious (oily) and sounds so 'weak'.

I don't like Ethan.

Henry is ok but very popular. Still would be my choice from your three.

Otherwise how about Stanley, Arthur, Quentin, Rufus, Lysander, Tristan?

Crazytictac · 13/03/2012 12:31

Good choice in names. I like all three but my fave is Sebastian. It's strong, sounds nice and isn't too popular. Plus all the Sebastian's I know of (admittedly not that many are verrrry handsome). Seb is also a cool nickname IMO.

Out of interest, what was your initial front runner?

abbypumpkin · 13/03/2012 12:37

I love Sebastian and the nn Seb. He would take slightly longer for a LO to write than the other two but I don't think this should influence your choice providing he doesn't have a super long double barrelled surname.

I like Ethan, nice strong name with a modern feel to it.

I'm not so fond of Henry. I find it a bit old and regal but thats just imo

Impatientwino · 13/03/2012 12:46

Thanks all for your thoughts! I think Sebastian is my favourite so glad to hear it is liked by more than just me!

crazytictac - it was Thomas

DH had a colleague called Sebastian in Switzerland. His NN was Basi (Bashy)

FilterCoffee · 13/03/2012 15:33

They're all nice names, but I think Henry John works best, because you don't have both names ending in "n".

mathanxiety · 13/03/2012 17:29

Love Henry John.

Can't stand Ethan, and Sebastian not that great either I feel.

PrincessScrumpy · 13/03/2012 18:00

I love Sebastian but dh won't have it. I don't dislike the other 2 but don't love them either.

PercyFilth · 13/03/2012 19:20

I like Sebastian but not Seb. I know a Sebastian who is called Bas.

Really dislike Ethan. It sounds chemical. Ethanol. Methane. yuk.

greencat23 · 13/03/2012 19:20

Love Henry
Like Ethan
Dislike sebastian

WetAugust · 13/03/2012 22:49

I wouldn't let teh fact that your cousin used the name from stopping you also using the name.

My cousin and I have sons with the same name - named after their grandfather.

Unless you live in very close proximity to your cousin it shouldn't be an issue.

LucyManga · 14/03/2012 12:00

I really like Sebastian - was on my shortlist for DS but DH wasnt keen. Henry is a nice, solid name. Not keen on Ethan.
