Baby name

Bump is currently yellow. We have settled on a boys name but are clueless for a girls.

List is as follows

Isabel (I love but OH doesn't like the way it looks!)
Holly (I love but OH knows two other LOs named this)
Libby (Both love but too close to DD1s name (Abby))
Amber (both like but again think it has too many similar
letters to DD!)
Alexandra (OH doesn't like)
Jessica (OH likes but I'm not keen)
Nicole (OH likes but I really don't)
Keira (both like but don't think it's the one)
Cara (both like but think I'd get bored of it)
Kate (both like but doesn't feel like the one)

OH is struggling because he doesn't 'love' any name. The ones I love he won't commit to.

We don't like surnames as names or anything too old fashioned or frilly (poppy/daisy)

Isabel - so, so popular it must be top 3 in the UK, surely?

Alexandra - lovely name but do you want names beginning with the same letter?
Jessica - meh
Nicole - meh
Keira - meh
Cara - no, awful
Kate - nice, but what would it be short for?

What about Isabella as an alternative to Isabel, less "pink" and "cutesy" as a name and looks prettier when written down.

I actually think Isabella is the "frillier" of the 2 names, but it is a lovely name.

I love the spelling "Isobel"

Would agree with BombayBaby, Isabelle def more pik and cutesy than Isabel IMO. If not Isobel how about Isolde (Isold-uh) or the lady on OBEM last night was Ines which I really now like :)

Well I'm an Abi and one of my good friends is a Libby (Elizabeth), I think we make a nice pairing! :-)

I love Nicole and Keira.

Prefer the spelling Isobel.

Isabel - lovely. Would your DH accept it if it had a different spelling such as Isabelle? Or how about Isabella, Iona, Isla?
Holly - lovely :) Does it really matter that your DH happens to know of two DCs with this name? If you both really like it I wouldn't let that put you off.
Libby and Amber - yes, too similar to Abby
Alexandra, Jessica, Nicole - no point if one of you doesn't like them
Keira - lovely, keep it on the list as it may be the right one after all if you don't find anything you prefer
Kate - a bit dull IMHO
Cara - nice, but if you think you'd get "bored" why not something like Coralie, Clara, Carina, Clarissa?

I think you need to get rid of Alexandra, Jessica and Nicole becuase you both need to like the name.
Get rid of Libby and Amber as they're to similar to Abby.
Look for alternatives to Keira, Cara and Katie.
Try a different spelling for Isabel.
Two other Holly's really isnt that many. I know 4 or 5 Abby's, but still a lovely name.

I think Abby & Holly work well together. Abby & Jessica sounds nice to my ears; Abby and Jessie compliment each other too. Abby & Kate's almost there but with your first child's name, I can't help but think Abby & Katy would flow better.

I don't think Abby & Isabel, Abby & Amber or Abby & Alexandra work (although all three names are nice). I'm tempted to advise you to avoid names beginning with a vowel. I'm not sure about Abby & Nicole, Keira or Cara either. I just don't think those match the style of Abby.

Having chosen Abby for your first daughter and listed other popular names, I assume popularity isn't an issue if you love the name so my other suggestions would be:

I like shorter names with Abby.

No one is going to pronounce Asia as Ay-see-uh. It's just not how the proper noun is pronounced in English.

Abby and Kate is a great combo. Both good names but different and working well together. I like not having too "ie" sounds .

There is an Asia (Ay-see-uh) in my DC's nursery. Her family (they are Italian) pronounce it Ay-see-uh, I do, my DS does, the other kids do, the other parents do, the teachers do.....

Why on earth would you not pronunce it that way? If someone introduces 'Ay-see-uh', you call them 'Ay-see-uh'!

I'd try and stay away form -y or -ie names with Abby

I don't think Isobel would be great - Izzy and Abby? Every second child id called Isabel nowadays too. Isobel is better I think too

I like Kate, but Keira is my favorite from your list, although you could change the spelling if you like it but think its not quite right - Ciara, Kiera or Kira? Or something similar - Sienna or Siera?

I'm not too worried about popularity. OH didn't like Isobel and pronounced it eye-so-bel. I don't like the two l version as I think it's too long and frilly and don't like Isabella.
I love Georgia but OH doesn't though does like Georgie. I can't get past Georgie porgy!
We both like izzy but don't think it's enough of a name on it's own.
Both like Charlie but none of the long versions and are worried that there'll be boy charlie's in her class.
We really love Libby just wish it wasn't so similar.

What about Elizabeth? It's lovely in itself plus you can use either Libby or Izzy as nn.

I'd go for Elisabeth too. It has many many nn options that should make you and your OH happy - not just Libby and Izzy but also Lizzy, Betsy, Betty, Elsie, Liddy and apparently Tetty, and that's just limited to the nns with an ie/y ending.
