call DD2 Libby when DD1 is called Abby?

This is the only name we can agree on but think it's a bit close with the 'bby' bit at the end.

Abby is just Abby (not Abigail) and Libby would be just Libby (not Elizabeth)

Definitely not.

I would just think that no effort had been made in seeking out a special name of her own for DD2.

bagelmonkey · 08/03/2012 13:26

If its that you don't like the name Elizabeth, how about Liberty?

abbypumpkin · 08/03/2012 13:37

Thought so :( We just really like the name (presumably because it's similar to Abby)and we've been seeking out a special name for over a year and still at a loss!
Bagel thanks but find Liberty far too out there and American for me (though nothing wrong with it)

Too similar, sorry. How about Lydia, Katie, Emily?

abbypumpkin · 08/03/2012 13:48

Not fond of Lydia and neice is named Emily. We both quite like Kate(ie) but just don't feel it's perfect - if you know what I mean.

OH likes Keira at the minute but again I like it but it's not 'the one'

I think it's more difficult because we picked DD1 name earl on and both loved it from the start yet nothing this time is comparing so it kind of feels like we'd be using a 'second choice' name.
Kind of hoping for a boy as we have several names we both love

workshy · 08/03/2012 23:13

nothing wrong with Libby and Abby

they are two different names and if you and O like them then that is all that matters

(but Katy with a Y is nicer than wit 'ie' not sure why it just is Grin )

FilterCoffee · 08/03/2012 23:20

Lucy, Jasmine, Rebecca, Megan, Sophie, Charlotte, Hannah, Louisa, Grace, Bethany, Georgia, Alexandra, Juliet?

Chippychop · 08/03/2012 23:22

My friend has a milly and holly with no probs

jaffacakehips · 09/03/2012 08:58

Instead of Libby, what about having:
Izzy
Lizzy
or
Lexi

I know a wee girl called Izzy, not Elizabeth just Izzy.

Would that work?

zipzap · 09/03/2012 10:55

Both lovely individually but together sounds too close to 'ad lib' sorry and as I'm guessing they may shorten their names sometimes you're going to find yourself shouting 'ab lib come here/hurry up/ etc' and then think why did we do that?

Theas18 · 09/03/2012 12:27

That I'm afraid is beyond twee, but I'm not one for matchy/rhyme names at all. Pick something different and special for you special 2nd daughter.

debijon11 · 09/03/2012 13:32

I don't see why not.

I know sisters that are called Abbie and Libby, they are in the same school as my little 'uns.
It doesn't sound odd either when shes calling them.

Go with your heart :)

heartmoonshadow · 09/03/2012 13:40

I used to teach twins Abby and Libby they had no problems.
