What do people think of this name?

I really like it but I wondered if people thought it was going to become hugely popular or not? It's not really a problem if it does though! I just wondered if people knew any Caleb's? I notice it's jumped from being 104th most popular in 2009 to 87th in 2010 which is a big jump.

I did post a while back about the name Roscoe. I think people might think this is a slight improvement :)

I don't know why, but it makes me think of someone dark and sinister. Maybe I've seen or read something with a character of that name. For that reason, I'm not keen... sorry.

shesparkles · 07/03/2012 14:35

I love it!

hubbahubster · 07/03/2012 14:38

Mmm, Caleb from Kings of Leon... Hot...

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 07/03/2012 15:18

Love it.

A million times better than Roscoe.

mumatron · 07/03/2012 15:21

There is a Caleb in my family. I love it.

PosiePumblechook · 07/03/2012 15:25

I hate it, very very bible belt American.

Readynow · 07/03/2012 15:26

I like it & it is on my shortlist for my baby due in the summer. Not sure if people would assume he is being named after Caleb from the Kings of Leon though! DH not keen for that reason :(

Psammead · 07/03/2012 15:59

I like it, and Roscoe!

Clawdy · 07/03/2012 16:33

Love the name and always have, reminds me of the wonderful James Dean in East of Eden. He was called Cal,for short.

Minty82 · 07/03/2012 16:38

I love it - can't persuade DH sadly. It's Caleb Garth in Middlemarch for me...

TartyMcFarty · 07/03/2012 16:46

The name is coloured for me be because it was the name of a child whose family I couldn't stand, but in itself, I love it. I teach a Jabez, which to me is along the same line.

Clareypen · 07/03/2012 18:54

I love Caleb I used to babysit a lovely kid by that name, still love it

ashlee91 · 07/03/2012 19:11

doesnt it mean dog tho ?

Tooblunt2012 · 07/03/2012 19:12

I love it!

ipanicked · 07/03/2012 19:14

I just can't get past the fact it means dog. Other that that it's a lovely name. I guess it's only a problem if you care about the meaning of names Smile

tummytickler · 07/03/2012 19:58

I love the name Caleb! It reminds me of the spooky kid in the show American Gothic though, although that was on tv over 15 years ago so most people wont remember it.
There was one at our church Summer Club, who was about 8, but I have never met another. It's lovely. Was on my list 10 years ago but we went with something different.

littlepie · 07/03/2012 20:01

I know of one. It's nice enough but not to my taste.

whippetwoman · 07/03/2012 20:21

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your replies :)

I had no idea about Caleb from Kings of Leon! Doh. I didn't know it means dog either. Double doh. I know nothing. Kings of Leon might account for its sudden popularity. Most people are positive and as it's a name we both like (finally) I think we'll probably go for it.

Cheers for your opinions peeps :)

Clawdy · 07/03/2012 21:25

Caleb does not mean "dog",the hebrew word for that is "celeb"(yes, weird,I know!) Caleb means "wholehearted".

Winkly · 07/03/2012 21:30

Yes creepy kid from American Gothic, sorry.

mumofjust1 · 07/03/2012 21:31

LOVE the name Caleb!

Would use it if I had a ds Smile

timetosmile · 07/03/2012 21:34

Think about the pronunciation, depending on where you live.
Here 'ooop North it would end up with a short 'a' like cat not 'ay' like hay. Don't know if you'd mind!
Beautiful name though.

rachel234 · 07/03/2012 21:44

How DO you pronounce it? I'd say Cah-leb.

BorderDancer · 07/03/2012 21:50

Cay-leb if you're the Caleb that's married to my friend. They're Canadian so it sounds good with their accent!

I like it, but only spelled that way. The chavs spell it a dozen different ways, it became popular up here a few years ago. Half the so called bonny baby boys had it as a name spelled in various guises
