Nancy: too popular??

Lambchop76 · 01/03/2012 12:42

I really like the sound of it with the surname, and it feels quite feisty & characterful to me - but is it too trendy? I don't know any other young kids (yet) so have no grasp on its current popularity...

I dont know anyone with the name Nancy

Stellan · 01/03/2012 13:05

David Cameron naming his daughter Nancy probably stops the name ever becoming trendy.

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 01/03/2012 13:14

I love Nancy.

I only know one, she's 3 and very feisty and characterful!

I see it a lot on people's 'possibles list', but I don't think it actually gets used that much. I don't think it's in the top 100.

Bathsheba · 01/03/2012 13:15

My favourite Aunt is called Nancy...My girs adore her

Flowerface · 01/03/2012 13:22

I know a 2 year old Nancy - she is also very feisty and characterful! We live in Wales and there is also 'Nansi'. But that's a different thing.

I think Nancy is quite cool.

Stokey · 01/03/2012 13:24

I know 3 or 4, a 9-yr old and the others are 2-4 yr olds.

I think of it as one of the old-lady chic names but not as popular as Edie for example

Clawdy · 01/03/2012 14:17

Not a single one at our local school or toddler group...it's cute and different.

Lambchop76 · 01/03/2012 14:28

Thanks for all your comments! Yes the Cameron connection puts me off, but hopefully by the time she's at primary school he'll be but a distant memory...!

We have an 18 month old Nancy and haven't met another one yet. People are always very complimentary about the name. Although beware; we have drawn 4 elderly people to tears so far as they remember a Nancy from the past.

Beans1977 · 01/03/2012 15:48

Nancy is on our short-list - so I'm biased, I think it's lovely!

I checked the last set of figures from the Office of National Statistics the other day (yes I am sad, yes I have way too much time on my hands!) and it came in at 143. So I don't think that common. (off to seek medical help for being a fusspot now...)

LauraM20 · 01/03/2012 16:44

I love this name also, but it has popped up on here alot recently so am thinking there is going to be a baby boom of little Nancy's within the next few years! Which is a shame! X

tummytickler · 01/03/2012 21:55

I think of Nancy as being quite a classic name, I know loads, one on her 70's, one of 34, one of 33, 9 years and 7 years.
I think because I have always heard Nancy about, I almost think of it in the same way as I do the real classics.
It is lovely, and all the Nancy's I have known have been real sweethearts, which endears it to me further.

Rhubarbgarden · 02/03/2012 09:11

Nice name. I don't know any little Nancies. Only an adult who is vile.

marshmallowpies · 02/03/2012 21:06

I love Nancy. Great name, and I don't think it's too common, I only know one (and don't know any adults called it).

Dexy83 · 02/03/2012 21:20

It's my name and I was the only Nancy registered in my city since the 40's and I was born in the 80's.

She'll end up being called Nance though x

Floggingmolly · 02/03/2012 21:30

I wouldn't have said it was particularly popular? I've never known anyone with this name.

MrsJohnDeere · 02/03/2012 21:39

I don't know any

iloveberries · 03/03/2012 07:47

I know 2 nancys under 1 yr if that's useful??!! It might be due a comeback?!

suburbandream · 03/03/2012 07:50

I love the name, but I've never met any little Nancys since having my DCs. The only Nancy I know is 87! Grin

TreesDogsBooks · 03/03/2012 15:48

I have an 8 week old gorgeous nancy. I got the impression not many people liked it at first but now love it. I wanted an old fashioned but unique name and I've not heard of any Nancy's at all round here. I do hope it doesn't become too popular!

4madboys · 03/03/2012 16:03

i only know one nancy and she is three? lovely little girl, i think its a sort of old fashioned classic, not too popular :)

oh actually when i worked in an old peoples home as a teenager there was a nancy there, she was a lovely old lady :)

boyfallingoutofthesky · 03/03/2012 16:52

I know of two little Nancy's locally, both aged around 3. I think it is more popular than it was, but doubt it will become extremely so.

boyfallingoutofthesky · 03/03/2012 16:53

oops, apostrophe error - Nancies?
