Samuel Garner Affleck..

Discuss.

:o

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck welcomed their third kiddo. I think it's a great name ( I have a Samuel myself) but think it's odd that two out of their three kids have the same initial. (They're Violet, Seraphina, and now Samuel, in case anyone has more of a life than I do and does not know this.) I think Violet and Sam are great together, and Seraphina is a beautiful name but doesn't "go".

What are your thoughts?

Why do similar initials matter, though? Honest question - I've seen it mentioned as a factor before on here, and have never quite understood why. Am equally puzzled by the idea - which is very common on here - that sibling names should 'match'? Again, why? For whom is it a benefit? Each child is just his or her own name, presumably, not some kind of matching 'set' of three...?

babyblabber · 01/03/2012 08:57

i love the name but DH vetoed it long ago. :(

don't think the initials thing makes any difference.

BillyBollyBandy · 01/03/2012 09:00

I agree with you OP about the names - not fussed about the initials though

jaffacakehips · 01/03/2012 09:58

I like it...it's a nice normal un-hollywood name. They seem like a fairly normal family to me.

BombayBaby · 01/03/2012 10:56

I really like the name and the initals thing wouldn't have occured to me.

I think Seraphina is a very pretty name, but would be vetoed by the OH in a flash

birdofthenorth · 01/03/2012 11:34

I like it, not try-hard, I'm not fussed by same initial especially as there are different genders and they'll only be siblings at the same address for a while.

My only quibble would be if it gets abbreviated to Sam Affleck that doesn't flow v well -Samfleck?

birdofthenorth · 01/03/2012 11:35

PS I love Violet (DH vetoed). Seraphina is a bit fussy for me.

anewmotivatedme · 01/03/2012 12:06

I thought same initial advoided as you would not know who's the letter for, Miss S .... or Miss S .... etc. I don't think it matters, when it's different sex.

I don't think it matters how siblings flow together, it's what works with surname. Sam Affleck is really good, so it's a thumbs up from me.

I think all their children's names are lovely.

anewmotivatedme · 01/03/2012 12:07

how siblings name flow together - sorry

jaffacakehips · 01/03/2012 13:34

I saw an interview yonks again when Jennifer Garner referred to her DD's as Violet and Sarah. Clearly Sarah is her nn.

Violet, Sarah and Samuel...lovely.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 01/03/2012 13:36

Goddamn it, first an old friend and now Ben bloody Affleck announce today that they've STOLEN my baby name. I adore Samuel, and it's a family name too.

RitaMorgan · 01/03/2012 13:37

My sister and I have the same initial, brother has a different one. Never been a problem.

BikeRunSki · 01/03/2012 13:40

I stole Samuel first, apart from 8 previous generations of DH's family. Coincidentally it is a name I have always liked, and DS suits "Sam" down the ground.

I have the same initials (and surname) as my brother. Bothered me so little, that I now have the same initials and surname as my DH.

As for sibling names and initials- DS and DD have most of the same letters in their names! they "go" pretty well, in that they are both short with similar sounds, but I did not think about it at all when we names her.

You stole it first you say Bike?

Then you're on my shit list too.

CheerfulYank · 01/03/2012 17:10

My Samuel is almost 5. :) He's a total Sam too, can't imagine him as anything else.

You sure they call her Sarah not Sera?

CheerfulYank · 02/03/2012 05:41

Most likely Sera. :)

I don't know why I think sibling names have to "go", I just do :o. Like if someone had a Na'shia-Raye and a Joe. That would be odd.

In RL I know a family with a DS called Chase and 2 DDs. One is Kennedy and the other is...Hannah. Always seems strange to me. They are lovely though.
