Is Lilly Rose... too flowery?

I really like the name Lilly Rose but DH reckons it's going overboard. We're definitely going with Lilly but we're kinda at a stalemate with the middle name! So, too flowery or not?!

Definitely flowery but I like it! (says the woman who was adamant her DD would have flowery names, but hasn't....!!!)

plus3 · 26/02/2012 19:43

But then, I had Poppy & Clemetine on my list. In end, DH ended up delivering DD so I let him have his choice of name Grin

Why Lilly with a double 'L' in the middle? The flower is spelt Lily.

I think Lily Rose is fine btw.

Selks · 26/02/2012 19:47

Bit too overly sweet sounding for my liking. You have to imagine your child as an adult. Could that name still work then? If they were doing a presentation in the boardroom or whatever?

DilysPrice · 26/02/2012 19:50

Reminds me of Lily Rose from Family at One End Street - a plump child deeply embarrassed by her name but generally admirable.

dukeofpork · 26/02/2012 19:50

I think lily with one l. Also think two flowery names is a bit overkill tbh. Sorry.

PaigeTurner · 26/02/2012 19:53

Lily Allen is Lily Rose...

nooka · 26/02/2012 19:53

I don't like Lily with a double 'l'. I know it is considered an acceptable spelling, but if your child is named after the flower then it just seems a bit odd. I should probably add that my dd is a Lily (Lilian) and often gets an extra 'l' added, which is slightly irritating.

I think Lily Rose is a bit flowery, but it's just a middle name, so it doesn't really matter, as she won't be using the two together except in fairly exceptional circumstances (like getting married).

KatyJ26 · 26/02/2012 19:58

A very pretty name, however what if she turns out not to be a 'pretty' or 'flowery' kind of girl? Maybe stick with the first name, but consider changing the middle name/adding to it?

smogwod · 26/02/2012 19:58

Lily Rose is the name my 3 year-old uses when doing pretend play! I think Lily-Rose (as my dd says it) would be too flowery but Lily and middle name Rose are lovely

chipmonkey · 26/02/2012 19:59

I love Lily Rose but only with one l.

katecreate · 26/02/2012 20:07

It's Lilly with two lls after my grandma rather than the flower. Argh, it seems I may be in the wrong with both Lilly and Rose. But I really like it Grin

Using Lillian or Lilith Rose, or even Lillian Rosemary would give you a little wiggle room.

Chubfuddler · 26/02/2012 20:22

Lily rose is the name of the ghastliest of the ghastly children in green balloon club. Don't.

TidyDancer · 26/02/2012 20:23

Johnny Depp's DD is Lily Rose. I do prefer the classic spelling, but obviously you want the ll for a reason, so that's sweet. I don't think it's overkill.

NichyNoo · 26/02/2012 20:24

Johnny Depp's daughter is called Lily-Rose. I like it.

chipmonkey · 26/02/2012 20:25

If you love it, go for it. My dd was Sylvie-Rose. I'm sure a lot of people may have thought it was a bit flowery but they never said it, at least not to my face! Sadly she died at 7 weeks old but I'm so glad we gave her a name that was beautiful to us.

MariaCallous · 26/02/2012 20:26

I think it's a very pretty name, but it's not a really strong adults name iyswim. Even Lilia Rose or Lily Rosa might work better for me. Then again my poor children will be

bristols · 26/02/2012 20:27

There are two Lily-Roses in DS1's reception class. So it's pretty popular!

MariaCallous · 26/02/2012 20:27

In secondary school before they can spell their names.

CharlieBoo · 26/02/2012 20:34

Bit overkill for me, but ok as long as you don't double barrel it, and I would spell it with one 'l'. Looks more classy.

fluffygal · 26/02/2012 20:38

One of my best friends had a baby recently and named her Lilly Rose, I think its pretty but wouldn't be on my shortlist,, who cares what other people think though? Not everyone is going to like it, everyone has different tastes. If you like it go for it, middle names aren't used in every day life anyway!

libbyssister · 26/02/2012 20:38

Green Balloon Club!

FilterCoffee · 26/02/2012 20:51

I was going to say "Green Balloon Club" too.

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 26/02/2012 20:53

If you like it and DH agrees to it then do it!

I love it btw
