I quite like the retro vibe, but I'm not sure about it being a babies name, it's a grown ups name, do you know what I mean? Like Sebastian or Alexander...

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 26/02/2012 19:37

Isn't it a surname?

notnowImreading · 26/02/2012 19:40

I knew a Vaughn at primary school. He got a bit picked on, if I remember rightly, but not only because of his name. (Not by me, I hasten to add. I was nice.)

LaFilleSurLePont · 26/02/2012 19:42

I really like it. It works just as well on a baby or toddler as it does on an adult imho.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 26/02/2012 19:42

Oooo, top name ever: Vaughan Savidge off of R4

Pandygirl · 26/02/2012 19:46

I really like it, very unusual, but that's not a bad thing.

Shoutymomma · 26/02/2012 19:46

Vaughan is a good solid name. Ok it's not very cootchy-coo, but you are only a toddler for a very shorty time.

nooka · 26/02/2012 19:50

My children go to school with a Vaughn, but it is pronounced Von, which seems a bit odd to me. I think Vaughn Williams, which is a good association I guess. Not sure about it as a name to be honest.

LiviaAugusta · 26/02/2012 19:52

Ooooh love the name Vaughan! It's been on my list both times but has been vetoed by DH Sad

LetterboxFlapping · 26/02/2012 19:52

Nooka - I would pronounce Vaughn, Von. Like Vaughn Williams. What's the other way?

Like it by the way Cherryjam.

nooka · 26/02/2012 20:00

But Vaughn Williams isn't 'von' the 'au' has a long sound like the 'aw' in saw, or awe, not a short 'o' sound like on. Of course as with everything spoken it depends on accents too.

cherryjam · 26/02/2012 20:08

Thanks for all the responses everyone! Spanky2 - that is the name of my DS! Sebastian is basically the only name I like but as we've already used it I am clutching at straws - we also have Leo - is that better? Thought Vaughn may be a little too unusual...

OP posts:
CecilyP · 26/02/2012 20:16

I think it is fine - unusual as a first name, but fine. So, no, you haven't lost your marbles. I prefer the Vaughan spelling, as in Vaughan Williams. I knew a little boy called Vaughan once but that was years ago.

MariaCallous · 26/02/2012 20:21

I like it. We have a Seb so must have similar taste and possibly surname, also like Otto.

TidyDancer · 26/02/2012 20:21

Not a fan of Vaughn. It screams 70s moustached adult film star to me.

Sebastian and Leo are both really nice!

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 26/02/2012 20:24

Definitely the Vaughan spelling. Vaughn looks strange!

Nice name!

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 26/02/2012 20:25

Do prefer Leo I have to say

Hassled · 26/02/2012 20:25

Vaughn looks weird. Vaughan is OK-ish.

Any other contenders?

cherryjam · 26/02/2012 20:28

Thanks all.

Yes, Leo is another contender but just not sure if it is more of a middle name.
It is to go with a surname of 2 syllables ending in -er, so don't really want anything of the same sound, like Homer (!).. (sorry, first thing I could think of..I am not going to call my son Homer)...

OP posts:
LaFilleSurLePont · 26/02/2012 20:31

Leo is ok,but not half as nice as Vaughn imho.

Letterbox - the other way to say it is Vorn - V Orn, rather than Von.

If you choose Vaughan I prefer it spelt with the a.

Out of the two though, I prefer Leo (though personally wouldn't choose either).

LetterboxFlapping · 26/02/2012 20:52

Thanks Nooka and Chipping.

You are right about accents Nooka. As a Scot, I don't really do long vowel sounds.

mayanna123 · 26/02/2012 20:55

Lovely and more interesting/nicer than Leo imo.

Showmethemhappyfeet · 06/03/2012 07:08

I like it, said like lawn is you know what I mean
