using your middle name for your child's first name

hello all,

basically i'm really tempted to use my middle name for my second daughter's first name. it is a name i have always loved and growing up i wished my parents had chosen for my first name. i have a list of names i like but none of them seem to "grab" me the way my first daughter's name did and i don't like any of them as much as the name i'm considering.
part of me thinks it seems really unimaginative and "big-headed" to use this name but then another part of me thinks that if it is a name i've always loved then it seems silly to settle for a name i don't like as much.
DH is happy to use the name. the only name he likes as much sounds awful with our surname (too many 'S' sounds).
any opinions on this?

Do it.

I was about to say, I did that, but actually I did it the other way round: DD's middle name is my first name.

manicinsomniac · 25/02/2012 22:38

No reason why not.

What's the name?

startail · 25/02/2012 22:38

Don't see why not,
Like Bikeson DD1 has my first name (well the short form I'm known by) as her middle name

FilterCoffee · 25/02/2012 22:39

Yes it's fine :)

messymammy · 25/02/2012 22:42

Usually done the other way around with the dd having mums first name as their middle name, but see no reason why not if you like it.
Nice to pass that down, and I bet your mum Will be thrilled too

Sounds like a lovely idea and it will go very well with Beatrice. One of the DDs has my middle name as her middle name and another has another version of it as her first name.

PercyFilth · 26/02/2012 02:13

Why on earth would it be "big-headed"? we don't choose our own names. I would see it more as a compliment to my parents, or whoever chose the name for me.

(I only have one name, which I dislike)

pinkgirlythoughts · 26/02/2012 09:47

My son has his dad's middle name as his first name.... it was going to be his middle name too, but when he was born, none of the names we'd picked out for him seemed to suit him at all, so he got the middle name as a first name instead!

3boysgirlontheway · 26/02/2012 12:59

Do it, Elizabeth is a beautiful name and goes so well with Beatrice.

CecilyP · 26/02/2012 20:25

Don't see why not. If you like it, just go for it.

Italiangreyhound · 27/02/2012 01:34

Lovely idea, I am sure it will be very special and it is very accepted in lots of cultures to use the family names.

Puremince · 27/02/2012 08:39

DS1's name is DH's middle name. It was also my all-time favourite boys name before I met DH!

Housewifefromheaven · 27/02/2012 08:51

Exactly the same as pinkgirlythoughts

Jamdoughnutfiend · 27/02/2012 08:57

My dd1's name is my middle name - we just liked it and it suits her, so we used it
