My sister just called her baby elayna whilst it's lovely it just doesnt sound or look right. Is it a real name? Spelt properly?

It's pretty but she might spend the rest of her life spelling it out and correcting people who think it is Eleanor?

Alena or Eleanor would be nicer IMHO. Have you seen the urban dictionary definition on Hetty's google link?

I wouldn't worry about urban dictionary, you can put any name into it and get a dodgy definition back. I think it's a lovely name.
