What do you think of the name Bosco?
I love this name, and have met a couple of guys called Bosco. I always think "I Love that name!"
But do people generally like it or will they think I am mental? Am I subjecting my child to a life time of slagging??!
I actually live in the North now, where the TV show wasn't as big...what do you think?

I should point out that I don't even know if DC3 is a boy yet! But I think it might be...

I live and grew up in Northern Ireland and have no idea what the TV featuring or called Bosco is/was.

I am 27 years old, dunno if that's something to do with it, maybe it was before my time....

In terms of the name: it is cool, easy to spell and couldn't be mistaken for a girls name.

Pinkflipflop · 18/02/2012 20:21

I wrote a reply originally to this saying please noooooooooooooo - don't use it but actually when I say it a few times it's ok. Could grow on me!

Am from North too!!

TV character gives me creeps though!!

chocolateandcoffee · 18/02/2012 20:29

I grew up in the north too. I really have to agree with pinkflipflop. I hated the programme. but when you say the name a few times it is really a bit of a grower.

FlipFantasia · 18/02/2012 23:56

Ah Bosco - happy memories of being addicted to it as a child Grin. Way too close to bosca (Irish for box, hence why the puppet was called Bosco)

My brothers also had a teacher called Brother Bosco (Franciscan monk) at school.

So for me, a definite no Grin

I'm from Cork btw

Oh, I'm sorry but NO! Unless your little boy is very pale, very ginger and you plan to keep him in a box.
My brother talked like Bosco for a YEAR!!!
I have not quite recovered.

chipmonkey · 19/02/2012 00:42

I mean,

mathanxiety · 19/02/2012 03:04

A friend of mine started working as a producer in RTE in the mid 80s straight out of college and was consigned to the dustbin of history Children's Programming. She nearly ended up taking to the drink.

woopsidaisy · 19/02/2012 06:08

Oh no!
Hasn't anyone met a Bosco other than the Bosco?

These responses are funny though...

I may ignore you all. I like it.

No, no please don't. A lifetime of being asked who has their hand up your bum! No thanks :)

Purplehonesty · 19/02/2012 08:26

There was a bosco in the tv show third watch. So that's what I thought you meant by the tv name. He was cute.
But if it's after a puppet then no!

Nospringflower · 19/02/2012 08:29

We went to a church that was something to do with Don John Bosco so I think of it as a surname.

AnEcumenicalMatter · 19/02/2012 08:31

I say go for it

but start saving now for the years of therapy that will be required

rainbow77 · 19/02/2012 09:47

Another Cork woman here. Id say a definite no. A red haired puppet with a strange voice. Aren't there enough names to choose from ? But then again its your choice !

woopsidaisy · 19/02/2012 12:02

Gah! isn't it time to let the kids show go?

It was a normal name before the bloody puppet!!

I even dreamt about calling possible DS this name last night...I really want it.

Maybe I could be like a name crusader...forging through the unfair bias resulting from a show that hasn't been shown on TV since 1996! And even then only on RTE!

Oh lol please don't call your child Bosco!!! I am part amused part horrified! But then, I found him part amusing part horrifying! :)

I also thought he was a girl until recently!!! Blush

FreddieMercurysBolero · 19/02/2012 13:11

Ufásach.

messymammy · 19/02/2012 13:11

My first thought, apart from the puppet, was the fireman/paramedic on third watch called Bosco, but he was Italian and it was short for Boscerelli.
I say no no no,you will get bad reactions forever i fear.

Taken · 19/02/2012 14:43

Not many people for it then. Why don't you use it as a middle name?

woopsidaisy · 19/02/2012 15:20

Feck!
Why did I ask you all?Grin

So if you met a little boy in the playground, you would all think "WTF were the parents thinking?"
Not "Cute name! I'm so over the puppet?"

Plus I live in the North, where most people have never seen Bosco.

I'm not giving up yet.

Although I do quite like Ted too.
