Zoe or Sophie

They sound so similar but are so different. Which name should we go for?

I know a most amazing Zoe, who is womanly but strong, sporty, great sense of humour, intelligent and kind. That is what the name means to me.
Every Sophie I have ever met has been either a total drip or a bitch.

But these are just my associations.

Just from the sound of the name I still prefer Zoe.

Is Zoe too close to Chloe?

Nah - Chloe is too close to cloying.... but not Zoe!

I like Sophia more than Sophie.

They're both really pretty.

Not certain of the origins of Sophie, but Zoe means 'life' (in Greek) - which I've always thought is such a nice connotation. Zoe is probably more rare than Sophie too...

Zoe. There are millions of Sophies. 4 in DDs pre school class no Zoes.

We have a Sophia Zoe!! love both names, Zoe was DH's grandmother's name, and after some to-ing and fro-ing we decided on this order. Love the meanings/origins of both too..wisdom and life!

I really like them both but wouldn't use either if you've already got a Chloe

Zoe by about twenty million miles. But neither is very good with Chloe, if you already have one of those! Sophie better with Chloe but not by that much...

Sophie. Pretty and a lovely meaning too. Zoe is a little harsh.

I prefer Zoe. I think of Sophie as being a soft name, whereas I think of Zoe has been a lively, engaging girl.

I always think Sophie = Soppy and cannot understand its popularity. There are much stronger better names imo.

Sophie is very popular, but a much nicer name. Not keen on Zoe at all

A vote for Sophie, much softer and more feminine. But not with Chloe - we had a Chloe 'n' Zoe at school... two girls but always rolled into one!
