For a girl. What do you think?

Bloody awful! Is it a name?

NiceViper · 14/02/2012 19:06

I prefer the spelling Sidonie, and think it's a great name and possibly overdue a revival.

ggirl · 14/02/2012 19:06

Do you mean Sidney or is Sidoney the fem. spelling.

Never seen that spelling

SpottyTeacakes · 14/02/2012 19:06

I know and Sidoney (Sid), she is very nice. I like Sid but not so sure on Sidoney.

Pancakeflipper · 14/02/2012 19:06

No. Oh no.

TitWillow · 14/02/2012 19:06

um, no. Sydney if you must.

lemonbonbons · 14/02/2012 19:08

Sorry , I really don t like it - tis trying too hard and failing

minceorotherwise · 14/02/2012 19:10

Did you mean to put the 'o' in?
Apart from anything else..you and the poor child would spend your lives saying 'Sidoney', to which the response will be
'Hi Sidney'
'no it's Sidoney actually, with an O'
Sodney?
Sidoney
Sidney?
You get the picture

NiceViper · 14/02/2012 19:14

Two names - different roots;

Sidney (et al) come from variants of St Denis

Sidonius (from which come the feminine Sidony et al) is a separate mediaeval saint.

lorcana · 14/02/2012 19:19

Sidonie is a lovely old catholic name - I love it.I would spell it the trad way though as unorthodox spelling is always a pain ...

DialMforMummy · 14/02/2012 19:28

I like it as Sidonie.

mathanxiety · 14/02/2012 19:38

I like it a lot, spelled Sidonie.

Twas the name of the French novelist known as Colette (which was her surname) -- Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette. She had quite a colourful life.

DarrowbyEightFive · 14/02/2012 19:40

Sidonie is beautiful and elegant. Sidoney looks like you couldn't spell Sydney properly.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 14/02/2012 19:42

No.

No.

No.

Sorry, but you did ask.

SwedishEdith · 14/02/2012 19:43

Sidonie is lovely. Sidoney is horrible

BlackSwan · 14/02/2012 20:39

The one, the only, Sidoney. Cos nobody else will call their child that.

redrubyshoes · 14/02/2012 20:54

A big no. And then a small please no. Then a big fat NO!

Not a fan personally; people will forever wonder if the 'o' is meant to be there and they will omit it, leaving Sidney, which is a beautiful name btw.

vitaminC · 15/02/2012 09:52

Sounds like a hybrid between Sidney and Sidonie.
I much prefer Sidonie!

Montsti · 15/02/2012 10:04

Not really to my taste...but if you love it...

Brings back memories of "Scream"!

Mrsmonkfish · 15/02/2012 21:26

Sidonie is lovely, old fashioned (and used in France) so I would go with this rather than the other spelling (which I have never seen before)

Sidonie, yes. Sidoney, hell no.

upahill · 15/02/2012 21:31

Seeing that you asked I think it is awful, truly dreadful tbh.
