Please give me lots of reasons why my (lapsed Muslim) DH and I should call our son Rowan.

My argument is that he agreed to Olive for a girl, and his mother has a 'flower' name then this is no different, despite not having an Old Testament/Qur'anic background.

Back me up!

Also Rowan Williams is a legend.

(Making the assumption that you are not Muslim yourself) You could argue that it would be fair/a better reflection of his heritage for your son to have a "neutral" name that doesn't tie him to a particular faith or culture?

And likewise, Rowan is perfect as it isn't a traditionally Christian/Jewish/Hindu etc name either??

DH: 'OK, it's on the table'

Progress!

My mums name was ivy. My sons middle name is Rowan. Absolutely agree on the plant name association. :)
