we havent agreed on a name for each we dont know what sex our baby is but struggling with middle names! we dont want to use family names as very old fashioned and husband already has his fathers name. our surname is Maple

boys we have
Lewis
Louie
Xavier
Reuben
Charlie
Harrison - although is increasingly popular
DH loves Luca but I am not sure as we are not italian!

girls
Sophia
Isabelle/Isabella
Sienna
Niamh
Ava

Help would be grateful was thinking one sylluable names like Max? Rose?

Middle names don't really matter, you rarely use them (in fact most people will never know your middle name), so just choose a family name with lots of meaning. Good luck!

rachel234 · 08/02/2012 09:29

But yes, you can alternatively use the 'standard' middle names of Rose, Jane, James or Max, but personally I find that a little unimaginative.

Heres some ideas for 1 syllable middle names:

James
Luke
Tate
Cabe
Gabe
Wayne
Shane
Lee
Paul
John
Rhys
Shaun
Jack
Brett
Shay
Marc

Grace
May
Rae
Faye
Kay
Rose
Kate
Gill
Anne
Beth
Wren
Fern
Eve
Niamh
Jane
Jen

Personally like James, Shay, Shaun and Marc for boys; Grace, Rae, May and Rose for girls.

Max Maple sounds like a superhero - in the vain of Ben 10 Grin.

Personally, I think I'd go for a longer MN - something like Alexander maybe? Your first names are quite short & you surname is quite short so a longer MN might flow better?

Cazm2 · 08/02/2012 12:57

thanks ladies, yes pscrooge i see what you mean lol! i like alexander.

we would use middle names but i also find it unimaginative to name the baby my name or my husbands name just to have a middle name or land my baby with a really old fashioned name like brian or walter or something!!!

How about Luca as a mn?

manicinsomniac · 08/02/2012 23:09

I agree than a 3 syllable middle name flows better (but also agree that middle names don't get much attention once bab is born)

Lewis Christopher Maple
Louie Nicholas Maple
Xavier Anthony Maple
Reuben Alexander Maple
Charlie Nathaniel Maple
Harrison Samuel Maple
Luca William Maple

Sophia Arianna Maple
Isabelle Francesca Maple
Isabella Catherine Maple
Sienna Matilda Maple
Niamh Rebecca Maple
Ava Savannah Maple
Evie Alexandra Maple

All of them are really popular. HTH.

CointreauVersial · 08/02/2012 23:17

DS1's middle name is my brother's name; also DH's middle name (James)
DD1's middle name is her great-grandmother's name and also her grandmother's name (Ann)
DD2's middle name is my name (Victoria)

I couldn't imagine not choosing middle names without a family link; that's what they're for!

CointreauVersial · 08/02/2012 23:18

Random double negative there....

Cazm2 · 09/02/2012 10:56

thanks all great suggestions. its hard using middle names as both our fathers are dead so if we have a boy who do you decide is more important to have a name? also Brian is old fashioned so is my dads Philip. DH mothers side is patricia ann.

we just thought to save arguments and offence we would start from scratch. i dont necessarily think they have to have a family link.
