Bro-na the gh is silent mainly in Irish names

Eowyn is from lord of the rings so just watch clips on YouTube?

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 05/02/2012 23:14

Owen and Brona

WittyTitle · 05/02/2012 23:16

I would have went with Ewan - as in you-wun

MaMattoo · 05/02/2012 23:24

Oh-in and brow-nah I am told. Though I know one spelled Eoin. And a girl called Aoife. Quite vowel obsessed names though. No offence Smile

wahwahwah · 05/02/2012 23:28

Oh-in and bron-argh. I think.

WittyTitle · 05/02/2012 23:49

Eoin is Ian?

I have a friend called Eoin? When we met I asked him how it was pronounced and he said call me benji rofl

MrsChemist · 05/02/2012 23:50

I thought Aoife was pronounce Ee-fah.

I am probably wrong though.

WittyTitle · 05/02/2012 23:53

It is as far as I know

BackforGood · 05/02/2012 23:54

but if you as parents don't know how to pronounce them, have you considered how annoying it will be for the child throughout their lives ?

agree with backforgood I spent half my life correcting people then just changed it!

cookielove · 06/02/2012 00:27

I am just wondering how they are pronounced, i saw the top name written down when i was looking on waterstones for the blurb of the book i am currently reading (i know that doesn't make sense) another author, the other name is an actress in hollyoaks and i had seen it several times and had always wondered how it was pronounced.

Eoin is Owen.
Aoife is EE-fa.
Bronagh is BROH-na (means sorrowful/mournful)
