Fishing for inspiration for a name for DC2. Still got a while to go, but want to get this sorted at an early stage to avoid a repeat of last time (agonising over a name 1 week after the birth). DC1 is called Hector.

A couple of names I've thrown up already, just to give you an idea of my taste: Iona or Helena for a girl (but I don't really want to use another "H" name), and Alexander or Magnus for a boy (but not that keen on nicknames for Alexander, and would prefer not to use Magnus, as a relative and friend have both used it recently. I would love to get as many suggestions as possible at this stage, as I know from past experience that DP and I will find it difficult to agree on anything!

DC will be of Scottish / Irish / English heritage. We have some Italian links as well.

Forgot to mention that our surname is double-barrelled F-F, so have pretty much ruled out any names beginning with F (although I do like Fabian and Felix).

For boys, I like Lysander, but it could be a bit OTT with our surname. Also like Rufus, Marcus and Angus. Oscar and Callum were actually on our shortlist for DC1, but for some inexplicable reason I'm less keen on them now. Really like Lawrence, but it's the name of an ex-boyfriend, so automatically ruled out!

For girls, I like Xanthe, Aurelia and Juno (I think I'm definitely leaning towards some of the more classical names!). But a friend recently used Aurelia and whilst I love Juno, I'm not sure I can shake the associations with film (which I liked, but don't want everyone to think I'm using the name just because of the movie).

Probably going to try to steer away from Gaelic spellings, as we already have a difficult to spell surname.

Names I like but can't use for one reason or another:

Leo (sounds strange with our surname)
Rory(our surname ends with an "ee" sound, so first names also ending in an "ee" sound wrong to me)
Theo (good friend has used this for her son)

Not that keen on Miles or Arion. And definite no to Merlin!

Yup - I would say Isolduh (and I wouldn't use Merlin either myself although he is, by all accounts, a very cool child!)

Uther? As in 'Pendragon'? I know one! Very nice teenager as it happens.

Eugene? Another nice boy I know....

Can't see myself using Maeve.

Never heard of Uther before; probably not for us (although DP likes wacky names, so you never know!)

Eugene is nice, but the name of one of DC1's best friends, so probably not a goer.

Hmm, quite like Quinn. Also like Rafe (but it sounds funny when run together with our F-F surname) and Orla (but wonder if it's a bit "of the moment" and will seem dated in a few years time).
