As sister for Elsa? I think DH prefers Celeste but I wonder if it's too flouncy.

I really wanted Claudia but he doesn't like it, I don't think...

I love Clara - it DS2 was a girl it would have been their name. I also wanted Claudia but again my DH doesn't like it. Not sure about Celeste, think it would be a little too French for me.

Staverton · 02/02/2012 11:36

Ooo I love them all, and elsa!
Please tell me other names you like - boys and girls as we have similar taste and I'm thinking about dc3...

How about Dora/isadora, cecily, lydia, Thea, iona, kitty, clemency

Flowerface · 02/02/2012 11:36

The trouble with Helena is that he and I don't agree on how to say it, so it may be out for that reason... Sad

I don't really like Celeste, it sounds to much like molest to me - sorry.

However, I think Helena is very pretty.

It's a shame you can't use Claudia. What about....

Lydia
Estelle
Lara
Claudette

I really hope you find a name you both love soon x

Flowerface · 02/02/2012 11:45

I really LOVE Dora and that is actually DH's favourite and probably mine. I thought of Dorothea NN Dora, but am not sure about Dorothea... Maybe I prefer Isadora... (I have to confess: I actually really REALLY wanted 'Pandora' but so many people laughed at me I abandoned the idea...)

Cecily is also on my list and I love it, but don't think DH does (love Celia too but we know an unfortunate one...). Lydia was on the list for DD. Kitty is my cousin. I tried for Clemency - I really like it - but DH doesn't. I don't think he likes names that are also words. It confuses him. I love your taste Staverton, please keep them coming!!!

Celeste was the 'sad' instrument in the cartoon about the orchestra. I like Helena (after Kennedy).

Staverton · 02/02/2012 11:49

Ok I will put my thinking cap.. But you must tell me more names you like as I am stumped for dc3. What boys names do you like?

Anna
Romilly
Xanthe
Edith(edie)
Francesca( nn cesca)
Clementine
Harriet
Iris/ ivy

Staverton · 02/02/2012 11:50

Cecily is my all time fave but the meaning (blind ) does put me off

Staverton · 02/02/2012 11:54

Stella
Nina
Cordelia
Arianna

Flowerface · 02/02/2012 12:00

For boys we have Arthur, Benedict and Henry, and I think we both like Arthur best, after my great-grandfather. I also like Gilbert but everyone was quite rude about that too!

Harriet was my favourite for a long time but DH won't countenance it because of Harriet Harman. Henrietta?

Cordelia is very nice and was top for a while, but I wonder if it's too elaborate. Now I am thinking Isadora might be my fave...

Would everyone call her 'Izzy', tho?

I love benedict but ds middle name is Benjamin. Also love Gilbert (Gilbert Blythe in Anne of green gables!)

Hettie is a great nickname for henrietta. I like Harriet harman!

I think isadora would be nicknamed Dora. Love it!

Staverton · 02/02/2012 12:38

Sounds like Dora might be a winner!

Also like Rory for a boy

Flowerface · 02/02/2012 13:08

Yes, really like Rory. Our surname ends in 'y', tho, so not sure it works for us.

you like lovely names... Arthur was my dad and DS middle name, Benedict (blessing) is lovely with Ned as a NN, Gilbert (with Gil, Gilby or Bertie) is great too.

Clemency is my top girls name, also love Clara and Helena (but agree you have to pronounce the same!!). Don't like Celeste.

With Elsa, I think Benedict or Henry sound better?
And Clara or Pandora I think. To my ear too many sss in Elsa and Isadora (unless you always use just Dora).

I was at university with an Elsa, her friends were Venetia, Tahlia and Martha... ...

Rhubarbgarden · 02/02/2012 13:24

I love Helena. Dd was nearly called this.

Staverton · 02/02/2012 13:36

A few more

Eloise/heloise
Louisa
Esther/hester
Beatrix

Flowerface · 02/02/2012 14:07

Blimey, jollster you must have gone to a very exciting university!! All my friends were called Emily and Sarah.

I did think of Hester (DH likes it) but think that has too many 's's with Elsa too. He doesn't like Lousia, though I do.

Everyone in RL I have spoken to (incl my Mum) thinks that Pandora is an utterly absurd name. At least three friends independently and spontaneously laughed in my face when I said it...

Celeste is lovely......though nothing wrong with the other names either!

lottiegb · 02/02/2012 15:22

I thought I liked Celeste until I met an Australian one and her pronunciation, or perhaps enunciation, put me off, is sounded harsh rather than floatily celestial.

Clara is lovely, Claudia too, how about Theadora?

LaFilleSurLePont · 02/02/2012 16:31

Celeste is beautiful, and not flouncy at all imho.

Claudia is lovely too.

Clara is nice.

I don't like Helena at all.

Flowerface · 02/02/2012 20:06

I don't know why I am agonising about this anyway. DD insists on being called Percy or Mavis (of Thomas the flaming Tank fame) all the time anyway...

pilates · 02/02/2012 20:19

Clara is my favourite

randomimposter · 02/02/2012 20:27

Love that! DS a total TTTE nutjob too. Mavis is a cool diesel... Grin

TinkerMaloo · 02/02/2012 20:31

Helena :)

ED1984 · 03/02/2012 09:57

Helena. It is strong but feminine at the same time.
