What do you think of Dayna as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

This is my DD name, we thought it was lovely and unusual...what do you think???

I neither like nor dislike it really, but if you use it spell it the proper way - Dana. (which can be pronounced either Dayna or Darna) you don't need the extra Y

I thought it all went downhill when she joined. Jenna and Cally were much much better.

I went to school with a boy called Dayna (same spelling) in North London in the 80s, I can't hear the name without thinking of him (he was really naughty). Not that that has any bearing on anyone else, ha ha.

If you're in Scotland, well Glasgow, she may have to put up with "Dayna Jobby" teasing, as a little girl I know did.

But spelt Dana I quite like it.

Grin poppadum too funny!

This thread confuses me. You have already named your daughter, you are asking what people think then saying you don't care when they say something negative.
I think that you must care, otherwise why post in the first place?
FWIW, Dana is not to my taste but is perfectly acceptable. Dayna sounds made up and my phone corrects it to Sauna.

thetasigmamum · 01/02/2012 07:27

makkapakka your phone obviously lacks a cultural hinterland. :( ;)

OP, Dana isn't common, but Dayna certainly is!

HardCheese · 01/02/2012 09:59

The Celtic fertility goddess would be pronounced 'Dana' (same 'a' sound as in 'harder'), though. To be honest, I would never connect that with 'Dayna' - did you put the 'y' in because you wanted people not to pronounce it as 'Dana' (Dahna)? It gives it a very American 1970s vibe for me.

Her name was spelt DANA Scully though.

I am an X files geek.

School bully who terrorised dd was called Dayna. Vetoes it for me I'm afraid, but I always liked it prior to that.
