DH and I are just ttc so we've got tons of time, but we are both real planners so we're talking names. We have our girls name Amelie Rose (nn Millie), but simply cannot agree on a boys name.

My list

Joshua
Joseph
Isaac
Finn
Charlie

DH's list

Dexter
Frances
Eric

We both quite like Harry but neither of us are wild about it. Also I love Seth or Tobias (nn Toby) but both have been used by close friends so are out unfortunatly. Middle names will be James Michael (family names). DH is apprehensive about a J name because both DS1 and I have J names and he doesn't like the idea of being matchy matchy. Please be gentle, I'm newish here.

It depends what kind of name you want. Imho, Charlie, Finn and Joshua are all fairly popular names atm, so that would rule them out for me.

Frances goes with the middle names better than dexter, I think.

I love Joseph and Eric, but if you're reluctant to have a J name, that leaves... Eric James Michael, which sounds lovely, strong and classic.

Love your name choices! Think your husband's choices are awful! Not sure how helpful that is...?

I also thought the boys version was Francis? Nice name.

I like Joshua and Joseph, although they are extremely 'safe'.
Isaac is nice, although increasingly popular (may not be a problem)

I dislike Finn (they are everywhere) and Charlie (too cutesy).

Eric and Dexter are awful.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/01/2012 15:43

Tobias lovely. Steh = hideous imho.
Don't like Fin or Charlie.
The others are okay but v popular, if that matters.
Francis is nice (frances = girl). Eric is terrible.

How about Edmund/Edric instead of Eric?

I like Joshua, Joseph, Isaac, Francis and Eric.

Finn names are too faddy, Charlie is a nickname (but nice as short for Charles), Dexter too surnamey.

oikopolis · 29/01/2012 17:39

If you use Francis, don't go with the spelling Frances!! that's the girls' spelling.

I like Dexter and Joseph best.

Offspring · 30/01/2012 03:32

Joseph is my favourite.

Also like Isaac and Francis.

Littlecherublegs · 30/01/2012 10:46

Joshua - ok though dont like Josh
Joseph - LOVE!
Isaac - really like
Finn - ok
Charlie - not really my thing

Dexter - dogs name
Frances - Francis would be the male version but dont like it at all (sorry!)
Eric - Bananman??!! Smile

I like Tobias too.

Ephiny · 30/01/2012 11:04

I like your list much better than your DHs, they're all lovely. Though Charlie is a nickname to me, personally would prefer to use Charles as the full name.

And yes Frances is a girl's name. Don't like Dexter at all, and Eric is quite ugly and old-fashioned IMO.

pilates · 30/01/2012 17:55

I like Charles nn Charlie

I also like Joseph but not sure it sounds right with James Michael

lisaro · 31/01/2012 00:23

Please don't let your husband name him!!

startail · 31/01/2012 00:58

Francis or Isaac with those middle names.

hohohoshedittant · 31/01/2012 01:25

Joshua - nice and I like Josh, but wouldn't use a J name if DS1 has a J name
Joseph - ok, but boring
Isaac - not keen
Finn - Love, but so popular at the moment
Charlie - ok, bit boring and very popular
Dexter - dog or serial killer
Frances - nn Frankie? I like it
Eric - no

Love Seth and Tobias though.

How about; Noah, Luca/Lucas or Sebastian
