What do you think of this name? Its a varient of Mary and means 'star of the sea'

Prefer Mahlia, like Obama's daughter (Mallie sounds a bit made-up -sorry)

YodasMummy · 25/01/2012 15:25

I automatically think Sali Mali - but if you don't live anywhere near Wales, you should be fine.
I love the name Mary and the meaning of Mallie.

IndigoBell · 25/01/2012 15:30

Don't like it.

And you'll spend your whole life telling people how to spell it......

Hulababy · 25/01/2012 15:33

I'm not overly keen tbh. Not sure why really, as DD is Mollie and I love that, and Mallie is not that different anyway.

SoupDragon · 25/01/2012 15:45

It sounds completely made up or a nickname.

notso · 25/01/2012 15:48

I have heard a few(am in Wales), I quite like it.

mejon · 25/01/2012 16:10

I like Mali and it would have been DD2 had my mother not used it for her dog. Don't really like Mallie though - it does look rather made up whereas Mali is a perfectly normal and acceptable name in Welsh.

WillbeanChariot · 25/01/2012 16:15

What mejon said. It looks like a made up spelling of Mali.

woolly76 · 25/01/2012 16:24

Love Mali though the downside is that if your not in wales people tend to pronounce it marley

sorry - it just sounds like a made-up word. People are going to ask what it's short for. And anything starting 'Mal' sounds like 'bad' to me- malicious, malfunction etc.Apart from Malcolm of course Smile

mathanxiety · 25/01/2012 17:12

'O Malley the alley cat'.

Mella is nice and is another version of Mary afaik. Mali is also very nice.
