Sorry, 'Eden' to me is a beauty salon, not a boy's name Confused

CointreauVersial · 25/01/2012 13:13

A bit girly.

SoupDragon · 25/01/2012 13:13

too girly

EdithWeston · 25/01/2012 13:15

It's nit a name I particularly like, but I think it's a perfectly good name.

It is traditionally a boys name (though it was used on a female character in a dreadful US soap in the 80/90s).

saveus · 25/01/2012 13:15

I only know one Eden and he's a 6 yo boy, but the only reason I know his name is because his mother shrieks it from across the street numerous times a day.....

lisaro · 25/01/2012 13:17

Actively dislike it, for either boy or girl, but more so for a boy.

Tortoise · 25/01/2012 13:18

DS1 knows a female Eden.
DS2 knows a male Eden.
Both in same secondary school.
I think its fine for either sex.

PopcornBiscuit · 25/01/2012 13:22

I think of it as a female name.

nagynolonger · 25/01/2012 13:25

The only one I know is a girl. Never heard it used as a boy's name.

JUJUBUG · 25/01/2012 13:31

Hahhaaa!

I know a Baby Boy called Eaden. Lovely name. However Eden, that's just a girl's name...

4madboys · 25/01/2012 13:35

i think its fine for a boy or a girl, my dd has it as one of her middle names :)

jasminetatu · 25/01/2012 13:37

I know a baby boy Eden - it really suits him :) If you love it, go for it.

PercyFilth · 25/01/2012 13:50

There was this chap, but it's not his real name. His brothers used their own names.

pooka · 25/01/2012 13:52

Don't like it I'm afraid.

I know an Eden who is a boy. He's a character (iyswim). Is horrible to ds1 and generally whacking other children.

3boysgirlontheway · 25/01/2012 13:53

I think of it as a girls name, that doesn't mean it is one it is just how I think of it.

Montsti · 25/01/2012 16:17

I have only come across one Eden and it was a little girl so I think of it as a girl's name...

littlepie · 25/01/2012 17:22

I know one. He's really wimpy. Coloured my view. Like it for a girl though.

boohome · 25/01/2012 18:59

I knew an Eden (male) at work. But it did seem more of a girl's name iyswim.

And he seemed a bit fed up with "as in Garden of?" and "like the river in Cumbria?" comments whenever he got introduced to new people.

tammytoby · 25/01/2012 22:00

Had to google it myself:

Eden meaning and name origin
Eden is a boy's name (also sometimes used as girl's name Eden), pronounced EED'n. It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Eden is "place of pleasure". May also be used as a variant of Edan, or as a transferred surname from Old English meaning "rich bear cub". Biblical: the name of the garden-like first home of Adam and Eve. English statesman Sir Anthony Eden.

Eden has 5 variant forms: Eaden, Eadin, Edin, Ednan and Edyn.

For more information, see also the related name Aidan.

Baby names that sound like Eden are Aden and Eiden.

Ladyemem · 25/01/2012 22:17

no likey, sorry. I thought it was a girls name too.

Ethan nice though

workshy · 25/01/2012 22:21

I know one of each sex but I think it suits the girl better

sorry

MakkaPakkasWilly · 26/01/2012 09:55

I know a boy Eden. Indifferent.

AlmaMartyr · 26/01/2012 10:27

I know of two little baby boys called Eden (although would be quite grown-up now), I didn't know it was considered a girls' name. I like it more for a boy tbh.

2kidsintow · 29/01/2012 21:10

I've known an Edan who was a boy and two Edens that were girls.
The girls were lovely. The boy was def (in the words of a previous poster) a 'character'.

Once I got used to the name I really liked it though. But not the mother's habit of calling him Ee-die.
