Gertrude - one of the uglier 'old lady' names. Like Edna.
Bertha - big Bertha. Even if she's medium sized, she'll be called this. It will cause issues.
Paula/Paulette - the bitch from primary school
Shirley - wasn't this Big Daddy's name? Shirley Crabbe or something?
Gwen - this is by far the nicest from your list. But it doesn't go with Grace.

Bertha I do like but the "big" is a big no no.

Thankyou for your honest comments and replies.DH has loved some of these names as they're his dm and aunts names.I don't love them at all.Infact I think they're a little ugly!
The only name we can both agree on is Grace(I love Gracie).
I also love Amelia and Belle(adore these)but he is set against them saying they're 'wet' and 'frilly'.
Thinking of showing him this thread.When I told my DM the name Gertrude she laughed-says it all really!

Gertrude, Bertha, Paula/Paulette and Shirley are hideous names. It's a shame you've come to associate Gwen with them because it's an excellent name. Much more in the vane of Grace, Amelia and Belle than the horrors it's been lumped together with in your list.

Gwendolyn Grace known as Gwen or Gwenny. Beautiful.

Really don't like these, sorry. If I had to choose it would be Gwen as a nn for Gwendolyn, but that doesn't go particularly well with Grace.

Bertha I agree is 'big bertha'.
Paula is old, but not in a daisy/minnie way. In a woman who works in a pub/laundrette way. Prefer Paulette.

Gwen/Gurtrude are a big meh. Doesn't make me think of a clever, pretty girl. More like chubby girl at the back of the class with no friends...

I love Grace, but to pick from your list I think I'd go for Shirley Grace!

Gwendolen is lovely, and although I quite like Paula/Paulette, I'd probably go for Paulina.

Shirley is not a name I am mad keen on personally, but it could grow on me, I think.
