I was really dubious about naming ds the name we chose, I was more anxious about what others would think. But DH loves the name, and it was his turn to pick the DSs name and to be honest I do love the name too.

So we went ahead with it, BUT 13 months later, Im still not used to it. It doesnt seem to roll off the tongue like DS1s name does. I think its due to the fact that its not a popular well known name e.g. not it the top 100 names. Also other peoples reactions to his name dont really help e.g. He's called what?!

Anyone else found themselves in a similar sitaution

His name is Roman by the way

That is one of the nicest boys names ever. I love it.

Lovely name. Lots of nickname potential if the full version doesn't always roll off the tongue well -Romy, Rolly, Manny, RoRo...

He will grow into it, and probably thank you when he is the only one in his class.

DD's name always gets mistaken for something similar but more comman like your Roman/ Rowan example. Stuff them, they will learn!

birdofthenorth · 24/01/2012 11:32

common, even, sorry

I know a 30 something Roman and have always loved his name. As far as I know he only gets people complimenting him. I get "what?" and "oh hat's intersting" a lot as a reaction to Arlo so I know how you feel. In a reversal of what seems to be the usual MN wont, I am keeping fingers crossed for a few more Arlos to be born around here so people will realise it is actually a popular and valid name!

Arlo is a lovely name! I don't think iv ever heard it but we don't get many unusual names round here!

SLVC · 24/01/2012 21:21

Thanks glamourmama. I know one other, and know of another. It seems to be popular on some threads on here too, so I was under the impression it was more common a name than it would appear from some people's reactions!

We all still love it though, which is all that counts.

feels slightly guilty for hijacking OP's thread
