Hugo?

Looks like we may have decided on Hugo and Dh's middle name choice of Magnus.

So, Hugo Magnus.

What do you think?

Really struggled! Lots of reading, researching and very little agreement on names. Happy to hear alternatives/suggestions.

Lovely!

DialMforMummy · 18/01/2012 21:24

Love it. Jealous as DH vetoed Hugo, deemed too ladidah middle class. Envy

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 18/01/2012 21:28

Ooh positive responses! I am slightly concerned about middle class wannabe connotations, in my area though anything beyond Jayden is poncey.

  • It has to live up to wankerish double barrelled surname! Wink

I have a Hugo - love it.

DreamingOfPeace · 18/01/2012 21:37

I still like Hugo!!! Hooray! It's not that posh- it's short, easily pronounced, easily spelled. You'll not curse him with that!

I think Hugo Magnus makes it a bit posher, but a compromise is a compromise, and middle names are never used very much really!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 18/01/2012 21:42

The main off putting thing is odd family members would need coaching as they pronounce it Yoogo idiots but if that isn't enough to put me off?
The full name with double-barrelled surname is a bit much, I think but any double barreled surname would have that affect?

Well I am in a pocket of people that do have Hugo sort of names, but the wider area and names are more of Jayden ilk. In truth I don't know if he would get teased? Although, I do generally take the view that if a kid is going to be bullied it could be about anything?

LittleOne76 · 18/01/2012 22:22

Love it and have a Hugo of my own too. Attached to the boob right now having his last feed before tomorrow morning ( so mum says..... Very unlikely....!)

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 19/01/2012 11:54

Was it your last feed? Wink
So pleased people seem to like it. I have tried to find out the name popularity with 0 success any ideas where I can find the stats? Not in top 100 as far as I can tell?

Go to the Office of National Statistics' Website and look for Boys' Names 2010 (latest available stats). For some reason this doesn't always open - Sorry I can't do a link.

I have looked it up for you though and Hugo was the 149th most popular name and it was given to 394 baby boys. Hope this has helped.

crocodilesmiles · 19/01/2012 12:41

I thought I should add, if you manage to get on to Boys' Names 2010, you need to go to the "Table 6" tab at the bottom of the page in order to get the full list of boys' names, and not just the top 100 names.

Sorry if I'm making it sound really complicated!!

Just in case your interested Magnus was the 598th most popular boys' name and was given to 57 baby boys. I really like Magnus. I think it's so classy!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 19/01/2012 12:43

Oh thank you! I spent quite a while googling but didn't get beyond articles of top 100 names. 149th is pretty good!

Like it.

Not keen on Magnus, but love Hugo.

GlueSticksEverywhere · 19/01/2012 14:27

Like Hugo very much. Cute.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 19/01/2012 15:01

I can't say I am keen on Magnus, Dh loves it.
Hopefully, not too cute, I reckon he could still be a judge :)

I'm cooking a potential Hugo, but he is most likely going to be Rowan, we'll wait and see. I like Magnus as a middle name

TinkerMaloo · 19/01/2012 16:03

its a bit posh sounding for me to be truthful...

im not a jayden, keelan or kai kind of person, but neither am i a hugo, rupert or conrad type

redrubyshoes · 19/01/2012 19:32

Try and find the books Hugo and Josephine by Maria Grippe (?) a Swedish childrens' writer. They are a trilogy of Josephine, Hugo and Hugo and Josephine.

Wonderful stories and Hugo is a fantastic character, he is very much a child of nature and a free spirit.

Great name.

LAbaby · 19/01/2012 20:07

I'm married to a Hugo and may be biased but think its a great name. He gets lots of compliments on it, and never heard anyone say it is pretentious. In fact as we live in LA people often think it is a Latin American name, as it's very popular there.

threecurrantbuns · 19/01/2012 20:11

.
We have an absolutely gorgeous Hugo. :) I love his name.

RnB · 21/01/2012 07:16

Love both names. Great combination

GlueSticksEverywhere · 21/01/2012 08:42

The more I think about it the more I like it!
