Emily is a very popular name :) I work in a large maternity hospital and it comes up a lot. Isnt it the top name used last year. Mind you it is a lovely name too. I know of two Sophia's recently, think that is getting popular as well.
But they are both lovely names and you can never tell just how many others you will encounter of the same name...my daughter's name is particularly common i thought but we never met another one till she got to school!!

Just googled top baby names for last yr and 2010, varying results, for 2010 says emily was no.3 and 2011 no 6?? My baby is an Emily but she is going to be 18 yrs old in March!! I thought it a classic, but slightly unusual name in 1994, however there were suddenly lots of them in the following few years, which did annoy me abit!! Though it seemed a bit common for a while, i have just looked through her FB friends and there are only 3 other Emilys. I think it is alovely name.. Sophia is soo pretty too. How can classic names like that go out of fashion?

Hi Phoebie,

We're moving this thread to Baby Names because we think you'll get more of a response there. Thanks!

there are loads of emilys and loads of sophias at the mo! they are both gorgeous names though.. :)

when i was at school there were 4 lisas in my class and they didnt like it...

my name rule is dont use anything in the top ten! and hope you havent started a trend lol

if you really like it I'd go for it anyway. We chose a name that wasn't popular and the child's godparents used it for their offspring. shame you can't copyright them!!
