Is Jasper a fairly mainstream name and what are your thoughts? How many Jaspers do you know? We are looking for a name that is known and not too unusual but at the same time, not overly common. Any opinions welcome. Ta.

It's popular in the Carrott family.

TopazMortmain · 16/01/2012 00:20

It's a lovely name...

iseewhatyoumean · 16/01/2012 00:22

Thanks Topaz. Is it a name that us suited to an adult as well as a baby?

Sorry - just re-read what I put, it was meant to be jokey, not sarky. FWIW it's growing on me.

No probs lisaro!

The Holiday immediately springs to me - that character that Kate Winslet was first dating...Jasper.

I don't know of any in our family or at school....so must be on the unusual side..

Slainte · 16/01/2012 00:39

I know one adult Jasper and the name really suits him, he's a very well spoken academic, with a soft, vulnerable side.

EdithWeston · 16/01/2012 00:39

I know two Jaspers and one Caspar.

I think it's a lovely name.

FiveBells · 16/01/2012 00:45

DS2's name. I thinks it's awesome! Grin

theverysuccessfulone · 16/01/2012 01:43

know one under 2yo. I've a feeling it will be popular soon

nooka · 16/01/2012 01:46

There is one in Twilight which might bump the popularity, but not as much as Jacob/Edward/Bella.

mrswoodentop · 16/01/2012 09:05

I know one adult Jasper who is a doctor, but have to say I know St least three cats called Jasper

AntsMarching · 16/01/2012 09:09

Jasper was my grandfather's name, but everyone called him Jack. Only one I've ever known.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 16/01/2012 09:49

I know one boy called Jasper - he is seven. I agree with NoMoreMarbles - it's unusual but not in a bizarre celeb sort of way. I think it is really cute.

Jakeyblueblue · 16/01/2012 09:56

My dh wanted to call DS jasper but I didnt really like it. It has since grown on me though and I might consider it if I ever have another boy!

3boysgirlontheway · 16/01/2012 11:15

I know of one, but, don't know him personally. It is a lovely name, unusual without being wacky!

guinealady · 16/01/2012 11:19

I've only known, or known of, Jaspers who had four legs and a waggy tail. Not sure I've ever met a human one...it is a rather nice name, though.

higgle · 16/01/2012 11:20

I know lots of dogs called Jasper but no people! I'm afraid my views of the name are somewhat coloured by one smelly and grumpy cocker spaniel.

Figgyrolls · 16/01/2012 11:23

I know two adult ones, 1 is academic and gentle whilst being very good looking and a lot of fun, the other is a big beefy fellow who is sporty and drinky and a lot of fun. Love the name.

ValarMorghulis · 16/01/2012 11:24

think it is likely to make a resurgence since the Twilight books/films

missmiss · 16/01/2012 11:40

I know a few small Jasperd. It's a great name!

littlepie · 16/01/2012 15:26

It was our cat's name. Sadly this rules it out of being DC name but I do like it. (He was a great cat-very wise).

TimothyClaypoleLover · 16/01/2012 15:28

I know 3 small jaspers, one adult jaspers and 2 dog jaspers!
