Corbin/Corben?

Suggested by DH, it's not a name I'm very familiar with but he's trying to sell it as a compromise with two of my favourite names- Corin and Reuben. Not sure what to think so opinions welcome!

I think Corin and Reuben are nicer than Corbin/Corben. I don't like the "bin" ending of Corbin.

pinkyredrose · 15/01/2012 15:48

Reuben is lovely! Corin sounds made up and Corbin is just foul, sorry!

Bluestocking · 15/01/2012 15:56

Corin is nice - my only association is Corin Redgrave, which is fine! Not so keen on Reuben, and there are an awful lot of them around at the moment. Corbin is just awful, sounds like a company delivering Innovative Waste Disposal Solutions!

I think Corin is lovely. Simple, classic and not overused. Prefer it to Rueben.

Thanks. I can see where DH is coming from and the fact that he's trying to compromise is great but my instinct says 'no' to Corben, I just wanted to mull it over rather than just dismiss it out-of-hand (as that's what I've accused him of doing with my suggestions!). It just doesn't sound 'right' to me, and the shortening of Corey I really don't like. Back to the drawing board again, Reuben he's never going to agree to and as much as I like Corin I can't be arsed with correcting people when they hear Colin instead!

Like Reuben, the others are awful.

Corin is much nicer than Reuben. Corben sounds like a trouser press.
Have you considered the much superior Duncan or Adrian?

mungojerrie · 15/01/2012 18:13

Or Cohen?

duchesse · 15/01/2012 18:23

I hate Corbin- it sounds made-up. What is wrong with either of your two names? Bang his head repeatedly until he agrees with you.

LiviaAugusta · 15/01/2012 19:17

I've just officially vetoed Corben, much to DH's disappointment. With DS I was set on Rowan until DH suggested Owen as a compromise and hit on a name we both loved, so I think he thought he'd maybe done the same.

Just makes me think of Corben Dallas in the Fifth Element Grin

mellymooks · 15/01/2012 19:22

I LOVE Reuben and we would have had it, but my OH was insistent that it should be spelt Ruben (which is a valid spelling) but everyone I asked (MN poll Wink ) agreed it's more commonly spelt Reuben, so in the end we didn't have it!!
I have a very lovely Flynn Jago though who now he is here is definitly not a Reuben - names are funny things!

jaggythistle · 16/01/2012 14:18

Why do all these DH's love Corbin so much? Mine is trying to persuade me on this as well. Guess what one of his favourite films is...

MamaLazarou · 16/01/2012 14:34

Corben/Corbin does sound like an electrical appliance, I'm afraid. Reubens are ten-a-penny round here at the moment. Every other boy seems to be Reuben or Ethan at the moment.

Ice9116 · 16/01/2012 15:26

Love Corbin but it is a family SURNAME not first name.

LiviaAugusta · 16/01/2012 16:19

He saw sense! Looks like we're having a Rory if it's a boy... Smile
